Job Summary
Provides strategic and operational leadership for the integration, optimization, and support of pharmacy-related electronic medical record (EMR) systems, automated medication dispensing systems (e.g., Pyxis), barcode medication administration (BCMA), IV verification systems, and related technologies. Collaborates with IT, informatics, pharmacy operations, nursing, and clinical teams to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant medication-use processes across the health system.
Job Requirements
Education and Work Experience:
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree or equivalent: Required
- Advanced degree (e.g., MBA, MPH, MSc): Preferred
- Ten years\' related experience in a health system pharmacy: Required
- Five years\' in a director or above leadership role overseeing informatics or automation systems: Required
- PGY-2 Residency in Pharmacy Informatics or equivalent experience: Preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
- Current pharmacist license, preferably in California: Required
- Certification in Pharmacy Informatics (e.g., BCIP) or Lean Six Sigma: Preferred
Essential Functions:
- Provides vision and direction for the pharmacy informatics and automation program in alignment with organizational goals. Leads and manages pharmacy-related components of EMR design, build, optimization, and maintenance (e.g., Epic Willow Inpatient and Ambulatory, Cerner PharmNet). Develops and implements policies and procedures related to medication-use technology.
- Oversees the deployment, maintenance, and upgrades of automated dispensing cabinets (e.g., Pyxis), carousels, IV workflow systems. Ensures data integrity and alignment of formulary, order sets, alerts, and clinical decision support tools. Drives continuous improvement in medication safety and efficiency through analytics and automation.
- Acts as pharmacy lead on technology-related projects and initiatives, including EMR upgrades, new system implementations, and integration of pharmacy automation. Partners with multidisciplinary teams (nursing, IT, clinical leadership) to support enterprise medication-use initiatives. Serves as liaison to vendors for EMR and automation systems.
- Ensures systems and processes support compliance with The Joint Commission, CMS, state board of pharmacy, and DEA regulations. Supports accurate documentation, billing, and reporting of medication-related data within EMR systems.
- Manages pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and analysts as applicable. Develops training programs for staff on technology tools and workflows. Promotes a culture of safety, innovation, and accountability.

- Pay Range The estimated base pay for this position is $168,960 to $253,440. Additional individual compensation may be available for this role through differentials, extra shift incentives, bonuses, etc. Base pay is only a portion of the total rewards package, and a comprehensive benefits program is available for qualifying positions.
