The Auditor-Controller-Treasurer-Tax Collector's Office (ACTTC) is currently recruiting to fill an Accountant/Auditor position at either the I or II level. As a Property Tax Accountant/Auditor, you will perform a broad range of accounting and auditing functions to support the daily operations of the Property Tax Division. Responsibilities may include: Responsibilities
Performing complex property tax processes and ensuring compliance with regulations Preparing and submitting required state reports accurately and timely Managing school bond issuances, overseeing debt repayment schedules, and calculating tax rates Developing revenue estimates to support financial planning and forecasting Assisting with data collection and entry to support Board items and related documentation Interpreting and applying various accounting and financial laws and regulations Preparing a variety of accounting, budget, and financial reports Coordinating the direction, revision, and/or development of accounting systems and procedures Representing the office at board meetings and other meetings as needed, which may include delivering presentations Training clerical and technical personnel, including the assignment and evaluation of their work The ideal candidate will possess intellectual curiosity, an interest in doing research, and many of the following: The ability to analyze, implement, and apply accounting standards, revenue and taxation codes, government code, and other regulations Experience in governmental accounting and auditing, including preparing complex financial reports The ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with taxpayers, taxing agencies, external departments, and the public The ability to manage multiple competing deadlines and quickly adapt to a fast-paced environment during critical revenue allocation periods A passion for accounting, and continual learning and improvement Advanced Microsoft Office Suite skills, especially Word and Excel A Certified Public Accountant Certificate is highly desirable, but not required About the Office
About the Auditor-Controller-Treasurer-Tax Collector's Office The ACTTC Office provides a broad range of quality accounting, financial reporting, auditing, collection, financing, and investing services to County departments, agencies, districts, and the public. Its mission is to provide reliable and relevant financial services in an efficient, ethical, and effective manner to the citizens of Sonoma County while promoting fiscal responsibility and accountability. The Office is comprised of nine divisions, overseen by an executive management team that includes the Auditor-Controller-Treasurer-Tax Collector and three Assistants. Minimum Qualifications Experience & Education: Any combination of education and experience that would provide the knowledge and abilities listed. Normally, either possession of a four-year college degree in accounting, finance, economics, management or business administration (or a CPA certificate) and two years of professional audit and/or accounting experience (comparable to Accountant II or Accountant/Auditor I), OR seven years of governmental auditing and/or accounting experience (comparable to Accountant I or II or Accountant/Auditor I) with 12 semester units or 16 quarter units of accounting coursework. Experience directly related to the assigned section, such as payroll, tax accounting, budget, or auditing may be required. License:
Possession of a valid driver’s license at the appropriate level may be required depending upon assignment. The position advertised does not require possession of a valid California Driver's License. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Considerable knowledge of general and governmental accounting principles; generally accepted auditing standards (governmental); laws and policies related to County fiscal operations; personnel and public administration; supervisory practices; automated accounting systems; and PC applications. apply accounting principles; use auditing standards; maintain cooperative relationships; problem solve; plan and perform complex tasks; supervise staff; prepare clear reports; communicate effectively; adapt to changing regulations; explain County processes; perform calculations; evaluate and recommend accounting systems.
