Learn more about why you should join our team at General Responsibilities Participate in the detection of crime and enforcement of criminal laws; plan and conduct complete investigations of complex and administrative cases or conduct portions of complex investigations; and perform tasks supporting local law enforcement when requested. Work in the SLED VICE Special Operations and Investigations Unit - conducting Technical Services to law enforcement agencies and specializing in the area of electronic, physical, and covert surveillance techniques and methods.
Specific Duties
Technical Services - Issue, maintain, and account for the Division's surveillance equipment. Maintain relationship with equipment vendors to assure repairs, support, and/or upgrades are done expediently. Maintain knowledge in the area of electronic, physical, and covert surveillance methods and techniques. Provide training and guidance to Agents, and other agencies, in the use and operation of surveillance equipment. Maintain a current knowledge base regarding statutory and case law related to surveillance equipment and techniques. Research new technologies as they relate to technical surveillance equipment. Install and maintain equipment used in covert surveillance, as requested. Enhance audio/video/electronic media at the request of the Division and other agencies. Conduct searches for electronic countermeasures, as requested. Investigative, Reporting, and Administrative Tasks - Effectively obtain material facts and supporting information relating to violations of state or federal law, with an emphasis on the importation and distribution of illegal drugs into the state. Conduct thorough interviews of suspects/witnesses/victims to crimes or relevant matters, as needed. Effectively plan supporting enforcement activity to further the investigation. Develop, manage, and control confidential informants who provide information and/or operational assistance with investigations, as needed. Prepare accurate, thorough, complete, and grammatically reports of investigations, reports of interviews, statements, affidavits, and/or other legal documents. Present investigative findings to the Court through testimony, as needed. Accurately report statistical information, as requested by the supervisor. Consult with the supervisor concerning investigations and significant events related to active investigations, Prepare and submit SLED daily and enters working time into SCEIS in required time period. Ensure case files are up to date and accurate. Support Local Law Enforcement - Assists local law enforcement when requested and professionally represents SLED Initiates, develops, and maintains contact with other law enforcement agencies and provides assistance with illegal drug investigations and other investigations when requested. Support Program Areas - Perform assigned tasks in support of the SLED Narcotics Section, or other SLED Program areas, when needed. Participate in SLED mandatory training and other optional training opportunities that are made available. Maintain SLED issued equipment. Assist other SLED Agents when needed. Minimum and Additional Requirements
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. A minimum of six (6) years of law enforcement experience. Must currently be certified as a Class I Law Enforcement Officer from the SC Criminal Justice Academy, or as a current certified law enforcement officer from another state or federal government and willing to attend the SC Criminal Justice Academy (SCCJA) to obtain the SC certification. Must hold a current FAA Part 107 certification. Must hold a current NATIA Level 1 IP certification. Must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience in technical surveillance. Must have experience in 3D printing and CAD design. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to establish strong, positive working relationships with partners, with the ability to define problems and coordinate resolutions. Must be a U.S. Citizen. Position requires work hours outside normal hours; to include overtime, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to lift up to 50(lbs.) pounds. Position may require extensive travel, including out of town, out of state, and overnight travel as necessary. Candidate must reside in or be willing to relocate to one of the following counties: Greenville, Spartanburg, or Laurens. Must be able to perform all of the physical requirements of a certified Class I LEO including, but is not limited to, the apprehension and arrest of criminals, including physically resistant individuals; performing investigations, inspections, search and seizures, including searching vehicles, buildings, attics, and crawl spaces; working crowd control and security during special events, including protests, marches, concerts, political rallies, and other events; working emergency response during natural disasters and other emergent crises. Must be able to respond 24/7 as needed and able to stand post or take other law enforcement action for long periods of continuous time (12+ hours). Preferred Qualifications
