About You As the Medical Director, you will serve as the clinical and cultural leader of the hospital, partnering closely with the Practice Manager and Thrive leadership to guide medical standards, support team development, and drive sustainable hospital performance. This role blends hands-on clinical practice with leadership responsibilities, allowing you to shape the future of the hospital while continuing to practice high-quality medicine.
About the Role As a key leader within the hospital, the Medical Director plays a critical role in setting the medical vision, maintaining standards of care, and cultivating an engaged and high-performing veterinary team. You will collaborate with hospital and regional leadership to implement best practices, support operational excellence, and ensure an exceptional patient and client experience. Your leadership will directly influence culture, medical quality, and team satisfaction.
Experience and Skills Requirements
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD) or equivalent degree required
State Veterinary Board License in good standing for the state in which they intend to be hired
Active DEA license or DEA licensure eligible
Demonstrated clinical excellence in small animal general practice
Prior leadership, mentorship, or supervisory experience preferred (We will mentor an emerging Medical Leader)
Strong communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills
Commitment to medical quality, team development, and client education
Medical Director Responsibilities
Serve as the clinical leader for the hospital, establishing and upholding high standards of medical care and patient safety
Partner with the Practice Manager to align medical excellence with operational and financial goals
Mentor, coach, and support associate veterinarians through training, feedback, and professional development
Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative hospital culture that supports team engagement and retention
Guide medical protocols, clinical workflows, and standard operating procedures in alignment with Thrive best practices
Support recruitment, onboarding, and retention of veterinary team members
Lead by example through active clinical practice and client communication
Participate in quality assurance initiatives, case reviews, and continuous improvement efforts
Collaborate with Thrive’s regional and medical leadership teams to implement strategic initiatives

Compensation Compensation is negotiable based on credentials and experience, full-time salary range starting at $170,000, with quarterly production bonuses, and a Medical Director stipend.
