R138651**About the Opportunity****JOB SUMMARY:**The Assistant Director develops, proposes, and implements employee training to ensure operational consistency and proficient frontline operations at the Marino Recreation Center. Provides leadership, hiring, training, scheduling, and supervision for the Facility Assistants assigned to the Marino Recreation Center as well as Building Supervisors assigned to the Marino Recreation Center and the SquashBusters Center. As the primary support to the point person for facility matters; maintains the business processes and communications between all facility stakeholders relative to access and operations. Provides recommendations/direction to the Associate Directors, and other Assistant Directors on existing and future facilities policies and training programs/standards. Serves as an ambassador and advocate for University Recreation internally and externally and provides day-to-day leadership on any projects assigned by the Associate Directors. The Assistant Director effectively communicates with all appropriate campus partners, including but not limited to: Center for Student Involvement, Student Employment, Student Financial Services, Facilities, and Registrar’s Office. Serves as primary risk manager for areas of oversight and when working department programs/events/facilities.Required to work on pre-determined weekends covering events throughout a calendar year.**RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:*** Staff Hiring, Training, Scheduling and Development for approximately 80 direct report student employees, and 75 non-direct report student employees.* Ensure an inclusive, safe, and diverse environment for staff, faculty, students and guests; address patron comments, concerns, behavior, and conduct issues as necessary, in a timely manner, with professional comportment required.* Assist with ensuring that policies & procedures for areas of oversight are properly developed, communicated, interpreted and implemented uniformly.* Train all direct reports on emergency response procedures. Teach certification courses for First Aid, CPR and AED and EAP/BBP courses for the Dept.* Assist with ensuring all event management protocols are followed to keep standards of planning, problem solving and communication timely and efficient.**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:*** Bachelor’s degree in recreation management, sports administration, exercise science, exercise physiology, health and fitness, kinesiology, physical education general studies or related field.* Minimum of 2 years of successfully demonstrated experience in campus recreation administration and/or successfully demonstrated experience in supervising athletic and recreation facilities along with student employees or comparable related experience (relative GA experience will be considered).* Proficient with Microsoft Office programs and the ability to adapt to learning in-house systems of management/logistics/and robust daily operations of recreation facilities/programs.* Team-oriented, self-directed, individual with strong detail orientation, organizational and reprioritization skills. Ability to manage/lead with a variety of situations when working across an organization’s many functional areas. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment that values high expectations, accountability, and balanced lifestyles. Ability to set priorities in order to perform a high volume of detailed work with regular distractions and interruptions. Ability to identify problems, assess alternatives, render consistent and logical decisions. Communicate with clarity, tact and diplomacy with a variety of people on the phone, via email, in meetings, and in person, when dealing with members/students/public/external constituents.* Knowledge of the following, supported by skills and abilities: current trends in campus recreation related to “student-led” facilities grounded in student development theory; relevant equipment, policies, procedures, programs and strategies/best practices associated with administering a comprehensive program of recreational activities in a university setting; meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction through needs assessment; equipment/supplies purchasing; computers and related software.* Lifting equipment ranging from 10lbs.- 400lbs. is required, with assistance from others or from machinery.**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:*** Master's Degree in Recreation/Sport Management, Exercise Science/Kinesiology, Education or related field* Demonstrated Experience:

· Providing superior customer care through successful training protocols.

· Supervising numerous student employees from diverse backgrounds, in different positions, in a higher education recreation setting.

· Developing and implementing policies and procedures.

· Maintaining and managing facilities.

· Leadership and supervisory abilities

· Supervising student employees in multiple facilities

· Supervising non-student part-time employees

· Budget management

· Facilitator/training experience, public speaking/presentation skills.
