Title
Department Summary The Academic Achievement Center ( AAC ) is the largest hub of student academic support services at Bridgewater State University. The AAC provides Learning Assistance support to undergraduate students. Within Learning Assistance there are six main areas: Academic Coaching, Accounting and Finance Lab, STEM Tutoring, Core and CRIT tutoring, and Writing and Communications, which also houses Tutoring for Multilingual Students ( TMS ). The AAC also houses Academic Advising, Student Accessibility Services, Transfer Services, and Testing Services. All areas within the AAC are dedicated to student success and retention, as well as equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Position Summary The Assistant Director is responsible for the planning and administration of learning assistance services, with an emphasis on STEM tutoring support. The Assistant Director will also assist with the coordination and communication of programs led by the Academic Achievement Center. Under the leadership of the Director of Learning Assistance, the Assistant Director will foster a welcoming, inclusive, and equitable culture for racially and socioeconomically diverse student populations as they transition into Bridgewater State University.
This position is located on campus in Bridgewater, MA.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED : Reports to the Director of Learning Assistance
SUPERVISION EXERCISED : The Assistant Director supervises STEM tutors, PALS , and STEM graduate assistants
Remote work: This position is based on campus in Bridgewater, Massachusetts. Up to two remote workdays per week may be possible in accordance with departmental needs and BSU remote work policies.
CORE DUTIES
Lead and manage the hiring, training, and daily operations of the STEM tutoring program using both equity-minded and best learning assistance practices.
Responsible for communication between the AAC and STEM departments to ensure collaboration and alignment of strategic initiatives, goals, and student learning outcomes.
Assess and utilize program data to inform decision making, improve the tutoring program, and advocate for additional resources; present data and create reports as needed.
Build relationships and develop partnerships with key campus stakeholders with a focus on supporting and advancing tutoring opportunities for all students enrolled in STEM classes.
Co-develop and facilitate additional training for math tutors and PALS through the MATC 205 course taught by the Math Services faculty coordinator.
Serve as a thought leader with AAC colleagues to develop programs and other specific learning support initiatives for first year, transfer, and undeclared and underserved student populations.
Utilize the tutoring program software system for scheduling, reporting, and the assessment of services.
Implement and communicate learning assistance policies and procedures to students and other key stakeholders.
Respond to all STEM student learning assistance matters.
Manage the hiring process for math tutors and PALs in collaboration with the Math Services faculty coordinator.
Actively advance a culture of accessibility, inclusivity, anti-racism, disability rights, and advocacy in the STEM learning assistance program.
Represent the Director of Learning Assistance at meetings as requested.
Participate on university committees as assigned.
Perform related responsibilities and projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Minimum three years of relevant experience in tutoring, coaching, or other academic assistance programs
Demonstrated commitment to anti racism, equity, and inclusion
Demonstrated knowledge of program development
Experience creating successful partnerships
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in STEM Education or STEM related discipline
Experience with STEM learning assistance programs in a higher education setting
Supervisory experience
Experience collaborating with faculty
Experience analyzing data to advance programs
Experience working with Learning Center appointment software (ex. Tutortrac, Accudemia, WCOnline)
Language proficiency in Spanish, Cape Verdean Creole, and/or French.
