Overview

General duties for the Campus Security Director role include ensuring the safety and security of the campus, property, faculty, staff, students, and community members. The position directs campus peace officers and other security personnel, enforces college and University security policies, and provides guidance on University-wide security policies in coordination with the University Security Office. Responsibilities

Manage and direct all college security activities, oversee college special events, and develop service contact specifications in consultation with the University Security Office. Plan, administer, and direct the overall management of the college security function, including budgeting, staffing, overtime use, and resource utilization. Prepare comprehensive security operations plans and assess the status of the campus security program. Direct field operations and administrative duties of all security staff; determine supervisory responsibilities and administer disciplinary processes. Maintain and update Emergency Management Plans per University and college guidelines; ensure FERPA compliance and prepare/distribute information per Clery Act guidelines. Record and compile criminal and security incident statistics; maintain University-wide security reports and provide daily incident reports to the University Director of Public Safety. Supervise security management personnel, conduct performance evaluations, and make resource allocation decisions per presidential directives. Direct investigations of criminal and/or violent incidents on campus; oversee training and orientation of security staff; coordinate with the University Public Safety Office on training programs. Ensure adherence to College President directives regarding security projects, initiatives, and programs; establish working relationships with NYC Police Department precinct commanding officers and coordinate with outside law enforcement when events require joint enforcement. Request NYC Police assistance when appropriate and oversee mandatory drug testing of security staff per the established policy guidelines. Promote crime prevention information and maintain community policing standards; inform college constituencies of the customer service philosophy of the University Office of Public Safety. Assess security needs related to communications technology; obtain, provide, and maintain security equipment, vehicles, and facilities in coordination with the University Public Safety Office. Ensure daily inspections of security officers (uniforms, grooming, firearms, equipment) prior to patrols; collaborate with the College Environmental Health and Safety Officer on safety standards; may serve as the EHS Officer. Provide information/testimony related to campus incidents; prepare specifications for contract security services when necessary for review and approval. Identify campus crime trends from statistical data; establish specialized patrols (e.g., vertical, bicycle patrols) as needed. Direct, recruit, and select a diverse workforce; assist the College Director of Human Resources with recruitment and selection procedures for security staff. Contract Title & Qualifications

The Campus Security Director Level 4 reports directly to the President of City College. Provide oversight of criminal investigations, including internal cases and Title IX/Title VI compliance. Lead and evaluate crime prevention initiatives and community outreach programs. Manage and deploy drone surveillance operations in accordance with legal and institutional guidelines. Build partnerships with local, state, and federal law enforcement; ensure coordinated responses and information sharing. Deliver campus-wide training programs for public safety personnel, students, faculty, staff, and community members. Other Duties Include

Serve as the primary public safety advisor to campus executive leadership with timely, accurate information. Communicate clearly with campus executives about incidents, threats, policy implications, and operational impacts for informed decision making. Translate complex security and compliance issues into concise executive briefings, risk assessments, and strategic recommendations. Provide real-time updates during critical incidents with scope, risk level, actions, and next steps. Minimum Qualifications

A baccalaureate degree in Criminal Justice, Police Science, Industrial Security, or related field with four (4) years of related security experience or equivalent military experience, including at least three (3) years of managerial/supervisory experience; OR A baccalaureate degree with six (6) years of related security experience or equivalent military experience, including at least three (3) years of managerial/supervisory experience; OR An associate’s degree or 60 college credits with eight (8) years of related security experience or equivalent military experience, including at least three (3) years of managerial/supervisory experience; OR A high school diploma or GED with ten (10) years of related security experience or equivalent military experience, including at least three (3) years of managerial/supervisory experience; AND A driver’s license valid in New York State. Substitutions Permitted A substitution will be permitted for two (2) of the three (3) years of the related managerial experience by submitting documentation for one of the listed programs (CPP certificate or another nationally accredited law enforcement administration program). NOTE: This position is subject to a satisfactory background investigation and may include drug testing, fingerprinting, and other checks. A person appointed may be required to participate in training as designated by the College President and University Public Safety Director. Compensation & Benefits
