Your day to day as a Peer Recovery Specialist II (Part-time) - Marcus Alert As a Peer Recovery Specialist II under the Marcus Alert program, you will play a crucial role in enhancing vital mental health services in alignment with the Marcus-Davis Peters Act, a transformative Virginia law aimed at improving responses for individuals facing behavioral health crises. Your key responsibilities will include engaging individuals in one-on-one and group sessions to articulate their personal recovery goals and develop tailored plans using tools like the Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP). With comprehensive knowledge of mental health symptoms and recovery strategies, you will provide peer support, advocate for consumers, and facilitate the creation of self-help groups. This role emphasizes collaboration with case managers and other treatment team members to ensure individuals receive the support they need for recovery and community integration.
Your lived experience with mental health or substance use services will enrich your ability to guide others, ultimately fostering a safe and supportive environment in accordance with the peer recovery philosophy.
What you need to be successful To excel as a Peer Recovery Specialist II in the Marcus Alert program, candidates must possess a robust skill set and qualifications. Being a Registered Peer Recovery Specialist with the Virginia Board of Counseling (RPRS) is essential, ensuring a solid foundation in peer recovery principles. Completion of the DBHDS 72-hour Peer Recovery Specialist Training is a prerequisite, equipping you with vital knowledge for supporting individuals with mental health and substance use challenges. A minimum of one year of experience in a Peer Recovery Specialist role is crucial for understanding the dynamics of recovery work. Strong communication skills, both written and oral, are necessary for effective interactions with clients and team members.
Proficiency with software applications, including the Microsoft Office suite, will facilitate accurate documentation and reporting. Additionally, a valid Virginia Driver's License is required to support outreach efforts and facilitate community engagement. These skills and qualifications embody the commitment to excellence that defines the peer recovery mission.
Knowledge and skills required for the position are:
Registered Peer Recovery Specialist with the VA Board of Counseling (RPRS) which includes the completion of DBHDS 72 hour Peer Recovery Specialist Training and at least one year of Peer Recovery Specialist experience.
Valid Virginia Driver's License.
