Job Description Time Designer – Woman’s C+S knits and Wovens

10-15 a week

Our client is a fast-growing women’s clothing brand based out of Boston, built on the belief that classic silhouettes and high-quality materials create a timeless wardrobe. Our design philosophy is clean, elevated, and enduring pieces you’ll wear for years. All clothing is designed in-house and thoughtfully produced in small batches with expert factories worldwide.

About The Role We are seeking an experienced Part-Time Contract Designer to support the development of our wovens and cut & sew knits product assortment. This role will own the design and product development process from concept through production approval, partnering closely with our merchandising, production, and factory teams.

The ideal candidate has an eye for timeless, high-end women’s apparel, with strong experience in wovens and cut & sew knits, and a deep knowledge (and love) of fabrics, yarns, and trims. This is a role for a designer who truly understands and values timelessness over trends; we are looking for someone who is excited to roll up their sleeves to help a small but growing brand refine its point of view, expand its product offering, and explore new categories.

Responsibilities

Work closely with our internal merchandising efforts to identify customer needs, analyze sales performance, and assess assortment gaps.

Research and present creative product concepts for woven and cut & sew knits that align with the Alice Walk aesthetic.

Further sketch and refine unique designs based on approved concepts that support line plans and assortment strategies.

Own the design, trim and product development process for each selected design through to production approval.

Technical Design & Execution

Create and maintain proto tech packs, including BOMs, POMs & grading.

Manage styles, tech packs, and sample tracking within our PLM.

Own fabric and trim research, sourcing, and selection.

Partner with factories to understand capabilities and ensure successful execution of designs.

Lead in-person fit sessions and communicate fit feedback directly to factories.

Collaboration & Organization

Maintain clear, timely communication with vendors and internal teams.

Methodically track and update technical notes, samples, and design assets.

Maintain impeccable organization to meet deadlines and manage multiple styles concurrently.

Requirements And Skills

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or equivalent experience.

Experience: 4–6 years of design/product development with a focus in high-end women’s apparel.

Strong knowledge of wovens and cut & sew knits.

A Deep Understanding Of

Fabrics, yarns, and trims and their impact on fit and construction.

Manufacturing processes and factory capabilities.

The apparel market, consumer behavior, and day-to-day business needs.

Product category experience in the following areas: woven tops, dresses, bottoms, and tailored pieces; cut & sew knit basics (tees, sweatshirts, sweatpants); outerwear.

Technical Skills: Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Microsoft Excel, PLM systems.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills; confident working with cross-functional team members and external vendors.

Highly organized with attention to detail and ability to manage/prioritize multiple projects.

Pay Range for 10-15 hrs = $50-$60 per hour.
