Seasonal - Assistant Day Camp Director
Assists the Day Camp Director with the administration of the entire summer program for the City of Oak Park's state licensed summer day camp. Responsible for assisting with the planning of camp curriculum, and overall organization and supervision of camp, campers, camp staff and volunteers. Provide care and support for day campers on a daily basis. Assists in developing, coordinating, and directing events, games, field trips and activities for each week. Communicate daily with Recreation Coordinator to ensure smooth running of program. Work closely with other camp staff, recreation staff, aquatic and other staff. Assists the Director with enforcing camp rules and staff policies; maintain discipline of campers and staff; bring concerns to the Recreation Coordinator. Have complete knowledge of camp staff manual and policies; licensed by State of Michigan Promptly handle first aid problems according to training, and complete accident reports. Oversee and participate in daily clean-up of the facility, fields, shelter and playground. Maintain positive public relations for camp and set a positive example for staff and campers. Work within set budget, order supplies, t-shirts; complete weekly budget/payroll reports. Complete and turn in evaluation of day camp staff, and the camp program. Assist Recreation Coordinator in planning and directing staff training. Assists Director in planning and organizing events/activities for AM & PM Latchkey; responsible for supervising and staffing. Perform tasks assigned by the Recreation Coordinator and Day Camp Director. Provide a fun, safe and healthy camp environment for kids and counselors to grow in. Make staff and camp schedules on a weekly basis. Provide the Recreation Coordinator and Day Camp Director with a final End of the Summer Report. Camp staff must be available for the Parent Meeting on TBA. CPR/First Aid Training TBA (unless certified within the last year). Must be available for all Pre-Camp Training. Camp runs Monday- Friday, June 15 - August 7, 2026, 9:00 AM 4:00 PM. All staff are required to attend weekly staff meetings. All staff are required to work on Independence Day Celebration. All staff required to be present for mandatory camp clean-up & inventory. Assistant Camp Directors are scheduled 40 hours/weekly during the camp session with 60 hours total pre-planning & summer meeting hours. Ability to play, organize and coordinate a variety of camp activities including games, arts & crafts, special events, tournaments, songs and field trips. Ability to recruit, train, supervise and evaluate employees Ability to organize tournament schedules Aquatic experience preferred Prepare daily schedules, flyers, newsletters, establish rules, regulations, polices and reinforce staff expectation. Prepare a weekly newsletter for campers and parents Must have excellent communication and leadership skills Organizational, supervisory and time management skills Ability to develop a well-rounded camp experience for campers Experience working with spreadsheets, email, word and publisher Ability to communicate effectively with the community and parents. Responsible for daily Before/After Care general practices and procedures. Must be physically able to perform duties as assigned Initiative and resourcefulness in problem solving Minimum of two years of experience working in the field of Recreation, Education, or other closely related field. Must have previous experience in camp or childcare setting. Possess First Aid/ CPR Certification (Certification available thru the City of Oak Park) Salary range: This is a temporary/seasonal position (May through November) with an hourly minimum rate of $18.00 (with consideration given to experience)
