Overview Augusta University is Georgia's innovation center for education and health care. The Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) at Augusta University provides guidance and assistance to help students secure funds for financing their education, assess eligibility for financial aid, assist with documentation, and counsel students on rights and responsibilities of receiving aid. This position supports enrollment, retention, and graduation of students, with travel to meet medical students at other AU sites within Georgia.
Responsibilities
COUNSELING : Provide individualized guidance to students (and their families) in Health Science fields regarding financial aid eligibility, advise on available aid programs, manage distribution and renewal of awards, and complete entrance and exit counseling with loan borrowers. Counsel on how changes such as withdrawal or not meeting SAP requirements affect eligibility. Offer information on non-aid payment options to ensure timely payment of institutional charges. Some travel is required.
CUSTOMER SERVICE : Assist students and families with FAFSA submission, required documentation, and the verification process. Identify and mitigate circumstances that might hinder academic progress. Respond to inquiries and coordinate outreach for outstanding or incomplete applications. Collaborate with federal, state and outside agencies to report aid awarded and with AU departments regarding admission, registration, academic advising and account payment related to aid.
RECORD MAINTENANCE : Reconcile FAFSA data with documentation, review FAFSA rejections, and resolve inconsistencies. Determine if special circumstances warrant revisions to FAFSA data or changes to dependency status. Report corrections to the Department of Education and maintain documentation for audits.
AWARDING AND ADJUSTMENTS : Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Interpret and implement policies related to student financial aid programs and assist with technical functions and reporting.
EVENTS AND COMMITTEES : Maintain professional currency through development, participate in events on- and off-campus, and serve on committees as needed. Train and assist other staff.
OTHER : Perform all other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two years of progressive experience in financial aid, customer or financial services, or relevant work experience.
Preferred Qualifications Preference given to candidates with experience with Department of Education software (e.g., FAA Access, NSLDS, COD, Return to Title IV) and knowledge of federal tax laws, FA module of Ellucian Banner, and CampusLogic.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE : Proficient in Microsoft Office and other software/databases. Knowledge of and ability to comply with FERPA laws.
SKILLS : Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented with strong prioritization and organizational skills. Public speaking and presentation skills.
ABILITIES : Maintain confidentiality. Work with a wide range of people. Solve problems independently and initiate/implement projects. Learn software systems (Ellucian Banner, CampusLogic, Slate, others). Counsel students and provide excellent customer service. Comply with federal and state statutes and regulations on eligibility and distribution of financial aid. Exercise professional judgment and critical thinking for interpreting regulations. Prioritize tasks, be detail-oriented, and collaborate well. Establish and maintain effective working relationships. Travel to provide training/education at other AU medical student sites.
Shift/Salary/Benefits Shift: Days; M-F
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
