Overview Savannah Technical College seeks a Campus Police Chief to manage and lead the campus police department. The role involves organizing, directing, supervising, and overseeing the day-to‑day operation of the department. The Chief will implement programs and procedures to provide a safe and secure environment for students, employees, and the general public. Responsibilities include coordinating and scheduling patrols of college property, investigating and reporting on‑campus incidents, compiling campus safety data, developing relationships with other law enforcement agencies, and coordinating emergency and disaster response planning.
Responsibilities
Overall management of the security and public safety program on multiple campuses and off‑campus sites supporting the education and public service activities of students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
Coordinate emergency response operations when necessary.
Develop and maintain emergency operations plans; update evacuation plans; conduct safety drills.
Coordinate operational plans and developments with local and other law enforcement agencies.
Manage and oversee financial and budget operations of the department.
Manage the GACP State Certification program for compliance.
Monitor personnel activities to ensure compliance with TCSG policy manual and departmental procedures.
Evaluate employees at scheduled intervals based on all relevant information.
Develop and/or assist with the development of policies and procedures and recommend changes to effectively meet the goals and requirements of the department.
Maintain knowledge of department and update management on services, operations, and projects.
Conduct regular evaluation of services provided and make adjustments as needed.
Maintain up‑to‑date policies and procedures; review state or federal laws that may impact department initiatives.
Serve as primary investigator of on‑campus incidents.
Communicate with local police, fire, and traffic departments regarding matters of concern to the college community.
Establish and direct enforcement of campus parking and traffic regulations.
Conduct regular inspections of AEDs ensuring good working condition and restock first aid kits.
Serve as Chairman of the College Safety Committee and on other campus committees when requested.
Perform community policing, implementing innovative, community‑focused strategies to build trust and address campus needs.
Present in‑service training and other educational programs.
Attend civic and government meetings when applicable.
Maintain Peace Officers Standards Training (P.O.S.T) certification.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate degree *and* five (5) years' experience *or* seven (7) years of experience in law enforcement *and* two (2) years of administrative and supervisory experience.
P.O.S.T certification.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in higher education, preferably within the Technical College System of Georgia.
Physical Demands The duties are typically performed in an office or classroom setting with the employee intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling for up to three to four continuous hours at a time. The employee occasionally lifts or moves light to medium weight objects. Full range of hand and finger motion may be utilized for data entry purposes.
Salary and Benefits Salary is commensurate with education and work experience. Benefits include paid state holidays, annual and sick leave, and the State of Georgia Flexible Benefits package.
