Primary Purpose of Residential Mentor Position The Residential Mentor creates supportive living‑learning environments where Elevate program students can develop independent living skills. Residential Mentors share an apartment suite with three Elevate students and, in collaboration with Elevate staff and University Housing, build community and support each student’s goals for independence, social, and academic success. Mentors partner with housing, facilities, dining, transportation, health, and safety services.

Work Location Position duties are performed on‑site and in person in Raleigh, North Carolina. The role is time‑limited from August 10 2026 to May 15 2027.

Requirements and Preferences

Work Schedule: 20 hours a week, must live in residence

Commitment to student‑centered work

Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills

Proficiency with email, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite, and virtual platforms such as Zoom or Teams

Ability to respond to urgent situations with professionalism and care

Experience serving as a peer mentor

Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of employment and maintenance throughout duration

Enrolled in at least 12 undergrad or 9 grad credit hours each semester

Endorsed for employment by NC State’s Human Resources after completing a criminal background check

Complete an NC State housing application, including acceptance of the housing agreement

No University disciplinary charges or sanctions at the time of offer or during employment; this includes academic integrity probation, non‑academic violations, or Housing Community Standards violations

Community Living & Support (60%)

Foster individualized routines for Elevate students living in University Housing

Establish and monitor independent living goals each semester

Provide peer‑level support through active listening and presence

Assist with time management and wellness practices

Support development of conflict resolution skills with University Housing

Maintain shared spaces and encourage independence

Help students understand safety and emergency protocols

Communicate concerns to University Housing staff

Mentorship & Engagement (20%)

Lead regular check‑ins to establish community

Assist students in navigating residential community spaces and social opportunities

Encourage independent living skills through workshops and educational materials

Develop positive interpersonal relationships with Elevate students

Administrative & Team Responsibilities (20%)

Participate in team meetings and training sessions with University Housing and Elevate team members

Complete administrative responsibilities supporting departmental operations and reporting

Follow protocols to assist students with housing and resources

Support planning and implementing campus and community partner events

Other duties as assigned by Project Manager for Elevate Program

Compliance Expectations

Participate in all required training associated with FERPA, the Clery Act, and Title IX

Comply with privacy protocols identified by FERPA

Complete all Title IX reporting responsibilities, including any incidents of sex discrimination

Must be available to work from August 12 2025 to May 15 2026

Preferred Experience/Qualifications

Experience with disability communities

Proficiency with documentation and digital communication tools such as GroupMe, When2Work, or Equip template reporting systems

Workshop or instruction development and facilitation skills

Anticipated Hiring Range: $4,000 stipend per academic year, plus provided housing
