Job Overview

Tekberry is seeking a detail-oriented

Technical Writer I

to support our client, a global leader in advanced optics and materials manufacturing technologies, at their Fairport, NY facility.

This role focuses on developing and improving technical documentation for manufacturing and engineering teams within a highly regulated production environment. The ideal candidate brings strong technical writing experience, the ability to interpret engineering processes, and a disciplined approach to documentation quality and accuracy.

This position requires

DOD/ITAR compliance - U.S. Citizenship is required

due to project and facility requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Documentation Development Develop, revise, and improve work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), troubleshooting guides, and job aids. Ensure documentation supports manufacturing and engineering workflows effectively and accurately. Translate complex technical processes into clear, concise, user-friendly documentation. Cross-Functional Collaboration

Partner with subject matter experts (SMEs), engineers, and operations personnel to gather technical information. Validate content accuracy and ensure alignment with operational requirements. Facilitate knowledge transfer between engineering and manufacturing teams. Research & Technical Analysis

Investigate and analyze technical data, engineering specifications, and operational procedures. Synthesize information from multiple sources into cohesive documentation. Ensure documentation reflects current processes and configuration standards. Editing & Quality Assurance

Review and edit documentation for clarity, grammar, consistency, and adherence to company style guidelines. Maintain version control and document organization standards. Ensure all documentation meets internal quality and compliance standards. Basic Project Management

Plan and track documentation projects to meet deadlines and quality expectations. Coordinate review cycles and approvals with stakeholders. Adapt to changing project priorities and manufacturing timelines. Must-Have Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, Engineering, Science, or related field (required). Minimum 3+ years of technical writing experience (manufacturing environment experience preferred). Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams). Ability to understand and accurately document technical processes. Excellent written communication skills with the ability to simplify complex technical content. Strong attention to detail and commitment to documentation quality. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Must be DOD/ITAR compliant - U.S. Citizenship required. Must be eligible to work in the U.S. for a minimum of 18 months. Preferred Qualifications

Experience in manufacturing or industrial production environments. Familiarity with PTC Windchill document management systems. Knowledge of optics or advanced materials manufacturing processes. Experience working in regulated or compliance-driven environments.
