THE OPPORTUNITY\nBrooklyn Supervised Release, the largest operating project of the Center, seeks to re-engineer the experience of criminal court in Brooklyn, New York, by providing judges and attorneys meaningful alternatives to bail and detention. Operating out of community‑based offices, Brooklyn Supervised Release is a team of social service providers, court liaisons, mental health practitioners, compliance specialists, and others who strive to improve the quality of justice. The program provides pretrial supervision, case management, and voluntary social services to people charged with misdemeanor and felony offenses, using an arrest as a window of opportunity to change the direction of a participant’s life and avoid the harmful effects of incarceration. Program participants are monitored to ensure their appearance at court dates and mandatory programming, and receive referrals to services such as job training, drug treatment, and mental health counseling.

Brooklyn Supervised Release seeks a Community Engagement Specialist. Reporting to the Community Engagement Coordinator, the Specialist will have comprehensive knowledge, understanding, and lived experience in successfully addressing foundational needs through local service providers. The specialist will support participants’ attendance at court dates and engagement in services by meeting with participants in the community to provide navigation support and facilitating warm handoffs between Case Managers, SRP Clinicians, and local service providers when referrals are made or mandated by the court. Additionally, the Specialist will build and maintain relationships with and knowledge of local service providers, and help ensure case management staff are knowledgeable about local service providers by facilitating in‑house information sessions.

Responsibilities

Provide support to participants seeking assistance or accompaniment to and from court or social services in the community.

Develop and maintain relationships with and knowledge of local service providers to understand services, eligibility, intake requirements, and enrollment opportunities, reducing referral barriers and optimizing participant access to services.

Explore additional service providers to assess quality and accessibility of services offered.

Develop and provide presentations on local social service agencies to direct practice teams to share information and guidance to optimize successful, quality referrals.

Maintain accurate and timely data entry and case documentation aligned with the program model, court reporting obligations, and best practices.

Consistent and effective cross‑team communication and collaboration to proactively identify successes, challenges, and opportunities to strengthen programming, create opportunities for meaningful collaboration, and maximize internal and external resources and expertise.

Substantive and comprehensive service to participant.

Working effectively with the case management and compliance teams to ensure accurate and timely court reporting.

Conduct regular outreach efforts in the community to engage participants.

Maintain professional and positive relationships with court staff, judges, attorneys, and service providers.

Participate in individual, group supervision, and regular staff trainings to develop program expertise and related skill sets.

Participate in designated trainings upon hire.

Attend project events, community events, and meetings after hours, as needed.

Please note that this role is not eligible for clinical hours.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Comprehensive knowledge of and lived experience with the criminal legal, housing, child welfare, and/or mental health systems preferred.

Bilingual (English‑Spanish) strongly preferred.

Must be detail‑oriented with strong organizational and time‑management skills.

Must be able to work effectively independently and as part of a highly interdependent, multi‑disciplinary team within a fast‑paced and dynamic work environment.

Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a variety of program stakeholders, including judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, court staff, and site partner agencies.

Peer Navigator certification valued but not required.

THE OPPORTUNITY\nBrooklyn Supervised Release, the largest operating project of the Center, seeks to re-engineer the experience of criminal court in Brooklyn, New York, by providing judges and attorneys meaningful alternatives to bail and detention. Operating out of community-based offices, Brooklyn Supervised Release is a team of social service providers, court liaisons, mental health practitioners, compliance specialists, and others who seek to improve the quality of justice. Supervised Release provides pretrial supervision, case management, and voluntary social services to people charged with misdemeanor and felony offenses, and in doing so, uses an arrest as a window of opportunity to change the direction of a participant’s life, avoiding the harmful effects of incarceration. Program participants are monitored to ensure their appearance at court dates and mandatory programming, and receive referrals to services like job training, drug treatment, and mental health counseling.

Brooklyn Supervised Release seeks a Community Engagement Specialist. Reporting to the Community Engagement Coordinator, the Community Engagement Specialist will have comprehensive knowledge, understanding, and lived experience successfully addressing foundational needs through local service providers. The Community Engagement Specialist will utilize this expertise to support participants’ attendance at court dates and engagement in services by meeting with participants in the community to provide navigation support and facilitating warm handoffs between Case Managers, SRP Clinicians, and local service providers when referrals are made or mandated by the court. Additionally, Community Engagement Specialists will build and maintain relationships with and knowledge of local service providers. Community Engagement Specialists will leverage this expertise to help ensure case management staff are knowledgeable about local service providers by facilitating in-house information sessions.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Providesupport to participants seeking assistance or accompaniment to and from court or social services in the community;

Developand maintainrelationships with and knowledge of local service providers to understand services, eligibility, intake requirements, and enrollment opportunities and challenges towards the goal of reducing referral barriers and optimizing participant access to services;

Exploreadditional service providers to assess quality and accessibility of services offered;

Developand providepresentations on local social service agencies to the direct practice teams to share information and guidance to optimize successful, quality referrals;

Maintainaccurate and timely data entry and case documentation aligned with the program model, court reporting obligations, and best practices;

Consistent and effective cross-team communication and collaboration to proactively identify successes, challenges, and opportunities to strengthen programming, create opportunities for meaningful collaboration, and maximize internal and external resources and expertise;

Substantive and comprehensive service to participant;

Working effectively with the case management and compliance teams to ensure accurate and timely court reporting;

Conductregular outreach efforts in the community to engage participants;

Maintainprofessional and positive relationships with court staff, judges, attorneys, and service providers;

Participatein individual, group supervision, and regular staff trainings to develop program expertise and related skill sets;

Participatein designated trainings upon hire;

Attendproject events, community events, and meetings after hours, as needed;

Please note that this role is not eligible for clinical hours; and

Additional relevant tasks, as necessary.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required;

Comprehensive knowledge of and lived experience with the criminal legal, housing, child welfare, and/or mental health systems preferred;

Bilingual (English-Spanish) strongly preferred;

Must be detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills;

Must be able to work effectively independently and as part of a highly interdependent, multi-disciplinary team within a fast-paced and dynamic work environment;

Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a variety of program stakeholders, including judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, court staff, and site partner agencies; and

Peer Navigator certification valued but not required.

The Justice Center works toward this vision by focusing on community safety, youth opportunity, neighborhood investment, economic mobility, and community healing. Programs like B Live, Youth Leadership Council, and Brownsville Girls Collaborative provide spaces to lead, heal, and create. In partnership with community leaders, BCJC has helped transform areas like Belmont Avenue into lively community spaces that have sparked local investment, created job opportunities for youth, and inspired residents to take part in community-driven projects. About the Role

What You'll Do\nThis is a pivotal moment for a new Project Director to shape the next chapter of the Brownsville Community Justice Center. As Project Director, you'll guide a talented team in reimagining programs to ensure they are deeply responsive to the evolving needs and strengths of the Brownsville community. You'll oversee strategy, partnerships, and daily operations by strengthening youth development, restorative justice, and community-driven safety efforts. We are looking for a leader who can balance vision with execution, deepen trust with residents and partners, and build sustainable models that center equity, opportunity, and healing.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Team Leadership

Lead, support, and inspire a diverse team, fostering a culture grounded in collaboration, accountability, and community connection

Collaborate with Center leadership on budgeting, fundraising, and resource allocation to sustain and grow initiatives

Supervise senior program staff; provide coaching, professional development, and performance management to ensure high-quality service delivery

Strengthen and build internal systems that promote innovation, shared learning, and staff well‑being

Oversee administration and management meetings, ensuring clear communication and follow‑through across programs

Model creative problem‑solving, healing‑centered practices, and youth development strategies in all aspects of leadership

Strategy and Program Design

Guide strategic planning and implementation for all Justice Center programs and initiatives

Reimagine and design programming that reflects Brownsville's priorities, expanding youth opportunity, reducing systemic harm, and investing in community spaces and networks

Oversee program outcomes and reporting, ensuring goals are met or exceeded

Develop policies, procedures, and program materials that align with evidence-based and community-informed practices.

Prepare grant proposals, progress reports, and evaluations that demonstrate impact and learning

External and Community Engagement

Serve as the public face of the Justice Center in Brownsville and beyond, representing the organization at community events, coalitions, and citywide meetings

Build and maintain partnerships with local residents, city agencies, funders, and community‑based organizations

Work with key partners, including the Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Safety, Community Board 16, local organizations, and neighborhood groups, to co‑create initiatives that promote safety and trust

Identify local needs and emerging issues, developing responsive programming that empowers residents and supports long‑term community healing

see communications, outreach, and engagement strategies, including social media and neighborhood activations that elevate the Center's work and voice

Who You'll Work With

You will report to the Senior Director of Programs, Community Safety.

You will supervise a team of 20, with 3 direct reports including: Program Manager, Community Initiatives; Program Manager, Community Safety; and Operations Manager.

You will frequently collaborate with other Project Directors and CJI leadership including: human resources, development, and finance.

Proven leadership experience in community-based or justice-focused organizations, with a track record of managing complex programs and diverse teams

Strong strategic thinker able to balance long‑term vision with hands‑on, day‑to‑day management and problem solving
