Job Summary
The Student Assistant will support the Office of Leadership and Community Engagement as a Community Liaison on the Statesboro Campus beginning Spring 2026. This position will work on-site at Homebound Services and will be employed by the Office of Leadership and Community Engagement. The primary responsibility of this role is to support the agency in the recruitment and management of university-based volunteers. Additional responsibilities include meeting regularly with staff at the assigned agency; preparing and submitting monthly reports to the Coordinator of Community Engagement at GSU; assisting with the planning and implementation of service initiatives and fundraising projects that support the agency; and participating in required leadership development and training activities. Employment in this position is contingent upon successful completion of a background check and drug screening, provided by the organization.
Must have access to transportation to and from the community agencies with whom students will be working.
Student employees cannot work more than 1300 hours in a 12-consecutive month period.
Responsibilities
Works directly with assigned agency to initiate and plan various service and fundraising projects to benefit the agencies
Assists the Agency with their Social Media and Website development needs
Connects agencies to campus resources
Serves as a liaison between students and campus organizations who are looking to serve at their assigned agency
Participates in various leadership development and training activities
Meets regularly with OLCE and partner agency staff
Assists with annual OLCE community engagement events as needed
Submits weekly reports to the Coordinator of Community Engagement at Georgia Southern
Shift Specifics
Up to 10 hours per week
Flexible with schedule of availability
Schedule includes required OLCE scheduled events and assigned community partners for events and needs
Required Qualifications Educational Requirements
Must be enrolled in six or more undergraduate credit hours or three or more graduate credit hours at Georgia Southern University.
Preferred Qualifications Preferred Experience
Proven leadership ability, strong record of volunteerism/community service, and a desire to positively impact the university and the local community
Experience with coordinating and managing teams/volunteers
Candidates with a special interest in nonprofits and public service organizations are strongly encouraged to apply, as well as those with website editing skills
Proposed Salary $9.00 per hour
This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.
