Department Information Resident Life

Job Summary The Student Assistant will support Resident Life as a Wing Mate-Peer Mentor on the Statesboro Campus beginning Fall 2026.

Student employees cannot work more than 1300 hours in a 12‑consecutive month period.

Responsibilities Community and Student Development

Serves as a visible, approachable, and supportive presence within the assigned RLC

Builds meaningful relationships with residents and fosters a welcoming community

Collaborates with faculty and staff to execute intentional interactions and peer mentorship

Refers residents to appropriate academic, wellness, and student support services

Encourages academic engagement and co‑curricular involvement

Supports conflict resolution, time management, teamwork, and cultural competency efforts in a peer‑to‑peer format

Programming and Campus Engagement

Supports the facilitation of monthly RLC‑focused learning events

Attends community‑based initiatives that align with RLC learning outcomes

Promotes academic college or program events and services, including curricular‑based student organizations

Represents the Kennedy Residential College and LLCs at campus‑wide recruitment events (e.g., Eagle Preview, SOAR, Open Houses)

Communication and Administrative Tasks

Attends bi‑weekly staff meetings and supervision sessions with the Coordinator and/or Teaching Assistants (TA1s)

Serves office hours each week for residents to openly engage and meet

Maintains consistent and professional communication with RLC, TA1s, and other stakeholders

Submits weekly reports and updates documenting resident interactions and event outcomes

Utilizes platforms such as Constant Contact, StarRez, and Eagle Engage to complete assignments and outreach

Training and Leadership Development

Attends fall, spring, and ongoing training as scheduled by University Housing. Wing Mates will be required to move in early for the start of the academic semester to participate in formal training efforts

Participates in leadership development workshops and seminars

Engages in regular reflection and goal‑setting with supervisors

Required training includes topics around upstander intervention, confidentiality and privacy, campus referrals, academic support, Ready Day One, student engagement, and technology.

Shift Specifics

Up to 10 hours per week

Flexible with schedule of availability

Shifts available Monday – Friday, 5:00 PM – 10:00 PM

Scheduled weekends when needed

Required Qualifications Educational Requirements

Must be enrolled in six or more undergraduate credit hours or three or more graduate credit hours at Georgia Southern University.
