Job Description The Ethics & Compliance Specialist (Compliance Officer I) promotes Texas A&M University’s ethical standards by conducting thorough, impartial, and confidential investigations into allegations of misconduct, including fraud, waste, abuse, and conflicts of interest. The Specialist manages cases from intake to resolution and prepares comprehensive reports with findings and recommendations for corrective action. Additionally, the Specialist plays a key role in proactively strengthening the university's commitment to upholding ethical standards by providing guidance, training, and resources to the university community, analyzing trends, and advising leadership of potential risks.

Essential Duties and Tasks Ethics Investigations & Case Management

Investigates allegations of violations of TAMU and TAMUS ethics policies, procedures, or other regulations, including fraud, misuse of resources or information, conflicts of interest, and other forms of misconduct

Executes the investigative process by conducting objective interviews, collecting and preserving evidence, and analyzing complex information to establish facts

Analyzes investigative findings to determine whether violations of regulations and standards have occurred

Prepares comprehensive, objective reports that detail investigative findings and provide clear recommendations for corrective action

Ensures the integrity and confidentiality of all case files, evidence, and related sensitive information

Collaborates with key partners, including Human Resources, Faculty Affairs, General Counsel, and other partners to ensure a fair, impartial and thorough investigation

Provides support for the administration of the University’s Risk, Fraud, and Misconduct Hotline (EthicsPoint) and other reporting mechanisms

Maintains and applies knowledge of TAMU and TAMUS rules, policies, and procedures and relevant State and Federal laws

Ethics Program Development & Support

Provides guidance and resources to the university community on ethical decisions and actions

Assists in the development and delivery of ethics and compliance training for various university audiences

Serves as a subject matter expert to provide consultative support during management advisory reviews

Participates in university risk assessments to identify and treat emerging ethical and compliance risks

Analyzes data to identify trends and indicators that may provide insight into the university’s risk, ethics and compliance culture and exposures

Risk and Compliance Activities

Supports internal audits and reviews by gathering information, coordinating responses, and tracking the implementation of corrective action plans

Contributes to the continuous improvement of the university’s risk, ethics and compliance program by assisting in the development and refinement of resources, guidelines, policies and procedures

Performs other risk and compliance support functions as assigned, including serving on committees, preparing reports, and participating in special projects

What You Need To Know Salary:

$65,000 annually

Required Education And Experience

Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience

Four or more years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Relevant certification or designation, such as Certified Ethics and Compliance Professional (CCEP), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), or equivalent

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Ability to evaluate and manage highly sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and professionalism

Excellent analytical skills with the ability to identify core issues within complex situations

Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others

This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures
