Job Title Golf Course Superintendent
Location Sagamore Spring Golf Club, Lynnfield, MA
Reports to General Manager
Job Summary The Superintendent is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the golf course maintenance department. This includes turf management, landscaping, irrigation management, equipment repair, budgetary control, staff management, and compliance with Massachusetts environmental and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Turf Management: Oversee maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and bunkers to ensure superior conditions.
Budget & Finance: Develop, manage, and adhere to operating and capital budgets.
Personnel Management: Hire, train, schedule, and supervise staff, ensuring a safe, productive, and respectful work environment.
Equipment Management: Supervise the maintenance and repair of all maintenance equipment.
Irrigation/Irrigation System: Schedule, operate, and maintain irrigation systems, including troubleshooting and repairs.
Preparing and implementing an annual plan for the golf course.
Communication: Coordinate with the Golf Professional and management regarding course conditions and special events.
Environmental Stewardship: Implement IPM (Integrated Pest Management) strategies for fertilization and pest control, adhering to local, state, and EPA regulations. Help with the ongoing Audubon certification process for Sagamore Spring.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Agronomy, Turfgrass Management, or related field preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years in golf course maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
Licensure: Valid Massachusetts Pesticide Applicator's License.
Skills: Strong technical knowledge of turfgrass, irrigation, and machinery.
Excellent leadership and communication skills.
Proven ability to lead teams and manage budgets effectively.
