Position Summary Mount Hood Golf Club, a professionally managed municipal golf facility, is seeking a dedicated and motivated Assistant Golf Course Superintendent. This role provides direct assistance to the Superintendent in overseeing daily agronomic and maintenance operations to ensure the golf course and entire property are maintained at the highest possible standards.
The Assistant Superintendent plays a key leadership role in delivering consistent, high-quality playing conditions while balancing budget awareness, regulatory compliance, safety, and public access standards. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong interpersonal and management skills, excellent work ethic, attention to detail, and a commitment to fostering a positive, team-oriented work environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities Agronomic & Turf Management
Assist in planning and executing comprehensive turf management programs including mowing, fertilization, aeration, overseeding, and pest/disease control
Apply fertilizers and pesticides in compliance with Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (MDAR) regulations
Maintain accurate records of chemical applications and maintenance activities
Irrigation Management
Assist in managing and maintaining the irrigation system to ensure proper and efficient operation
Maintain irrigation logs and service schedules
Assist with ordering and receiving irrigation parts and services within budget
Leadership & Staff Supervision
Provide positive supervision, guidance, and motivation to the maintenance team
Maintain consistent communication with the Superintendent, Equipment Manager and General Manager
Equipment & Facility Maintenance
Assist with inspection, service, and repair of all maintenance equipment
Promote safe work practices and proper equipment operation
Administration & Budgeting
Assist with annual Maintenance Department budget development and cost management
Support inventory control and purchasing within approved budgets
Professional Development & Culture
Demonstrate and promote company values at all times
Stay current with industry trends, turf practices, and regulations
Pursue professional development opportunities, including GCSAA certification and conference attendance
Be prepared to work extended hours, early mornings, weekends, and holidays during peak season
Qualifications
2+ years of golf course maintenance experience preferred
Massachusetts Pesticide Applicator License (Category 37 – Turf) required or ability to obtain within 90 days
Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
GCSAA and/or GCSANE membership preferred or supported
