Duties and Responsibilities
Assist with the operation of a six-week field trip-based travel camp for youths ages 12 - 15.
Supervise the camp, early care program and camp staff.
This position involves daily interaction with parents.
Lead trips, games, sports, arts & crafts and other recreation events.
This position will be required to drive a 15-passenger van to local and regional field trip locations daily.
Evaluate program; submit weekly reports, other related duties that may apply
REQUIREMENTS:
CPR and first aid certifications required.
Must work full six-weeks of camp and one-week of training.
Must have a valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
Previous supervisory and camp leadership experience preferred.
Minimum of three years of educational background in recreation, physical education, education, related field, or comparable experience desired.
Comfortable in deep water pools, ability to swim 25 yards and tread water desirable.
HOURS:
Monday - Friday - 8:30am - 5pm - up to 40 hours week during camp sessions, June 29 – August 7, including July 4 th .

Herndon Community Center, 814 Ferndale Avenue
Registration discount to Herndon Odyssey camp ** for age-eligible children of temporary or PTF employees who are working directly to support the summer camp program(s). Including camp counselors, Head Counselors, Directors and Assistant Directors, Inclusion coordinator and leaders, Camp administrator for science, nature, dance, tennis, Odyssey, and Teen Discovery camps. Contracted camp staff not included.
Can apply for up to 2 children*** of the staff member, 25% discount off the resident rate; only during employee’s scheduled work weeks; enrollment maximums apply, pre-registration required.
Specialty camps are not included (dance, tennis, contracted camps, science, nature, etc)
includes foster, step, natural, custodial children (Can a younger sibling to a counselor earn discount? Yes)
