POSITION SUMMARY:
The Communications Specialist is responsible for coordinating communication and public relations activities that create and maintain a favorable public image for South Washington County Schools Community Education. Primary responsibilities include: catalog production for various Community Education programs, overseeing website and social media, providing support for the department marketing efforts.
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS: Write for a variety of audiences and purposes including family and staff newsletters, web content, marketing materials, news releases and other print and electronic communications (including social media). Edit and proofread written content for accuracy, consistency, clarity and style. Coordinate production of print materials generated by the Communications Department, including flyers, brochures and quarterly newsletter. Assist with the planning and implementation of public relations initiatives. Assist with coordination and updates to district-level website, intranet and social media. Photograph district events and activities for use in print and electronic materials. Create, implement and support social media campaigns and initiatives. Support special programs, initiatives and events as required of the Communications Department. Perform other job-related duties as assigned. JOB SPECIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, LICENSE, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES):
Required:
Bachelor's degree in public relations, mass communications, or related field, plus two years of related professional experience. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of communication planning, implementation and evaluation. Proficient in the use of current technology required for the performance of duties, including Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and social media. Ability to maintain and coordinate updates to district-level website and intranet content. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Prompt, regular and reliable attendance. Ability to prioritize tasks and manage long term projects. Communicates with students, families, coworkers, supervisors, and the community in a positive and responsive way that is consistently welcoming and enhances effective working relationships. Demonstrates an appreciation of diversity in all interactions and job functions. Desired:
Previous communication experience working with public schools and/or knowledge of the South Washington County School community. Experience working with and/or knowledge of Community Education programming. Working knowledge of digital photography. Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite. Demonstrated knowledge working with website content management systems. Ability to respond professionally during a crisis situation. Demonstrated ability in taking a project from start to finish in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
