Position Details The City of Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation Department is seeking a motivated

Event/Recreation Intern

to assist with Special Events, the Auburn Farmers Market, and Recreation programs. This internship offers hands-on experience in event coordination, program development, and administrative support within a dynamic community-focused environment.

The Event/Recreation Intern will support the planning, coordination, and oversight of special events, the Auburn Farmers Market, and recreation programs.

Responsibilities include supporting event logistics, and vendors, assisting with on-site operations, providing administrative support such as registration processing and customer service, facilitating recreation programs, conducting community outreach, and contributing to promotional and marketing efforts.

The position requires a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, with availability to work a regular Sunday-Thursday schedule. There are regular weekday events that require a 12pm-8pm schedule.

This internship is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in event planning and community engagement while supporting Auburn's vibrant programs and events.

Primary Duties

Your primary duties in this role will include: Coordinates with regular Special Event Coordinators in the planning and oversight of related programs, program development, day of event duties as assigned, supervision of volunteers, facility and/or program. Assistance with event/Farmers Market coordination, planning and preparation Administrative assistant for Special Events and Farmers Market, or Parks, Arts & Recreation Department as assigned. Assist with marketing events and Farmers Market, as assigned. Provides EBT support for Farmers Market; and other registration needs for events as assigned. Assists with special event vendor registrations. Maintains high standard of Customer Service and City's accounting policies and procedures for these operations. Assist a city special events including but not limited to: Kids Day, 4th of July, Poker Run, and Summer Ride Bike Series. Assist in the planning and implementation of recreation programs including summer camps, bike programs, open climb nights and more. Is tactful and courteous with the public, co-workers, and City employees at all times, occasionally in difficult customer service situations. Follows written and verbal instructions and provides clear verbal and written instructions to program staff, volunteers, and general public. Enforces all department and City of Auburn rules and regulations. Attends employment training sessions required by the department. Demonstrates strong organizational, administrative, accounting and customer service skills. Ability to work independently and demonstrates sound and professional judgment. Regular, reliable, and punctual attendance. Will perform miscellaneous basic office tasks as assigned. Performs related work as required and assigned. Manual labor required for event days; must be able to lift 30 pounds and be mobile throughout events in accordance with event requirements. Minimum Qualifications To be eligible for this internship position, you must:

Be

enrolled in a recreation, education, event planning, communication, marketing, nutrition, or related field degree program;

AND Possess and retain a

valid state driver's license

without impending loss. Must be 21 years of age You will be required to obtain a valid CPR and First Aid certificate within three (3) weeks of appointment if you are not already certified. You may be required to obtain a King County Public Health Department Food Handler's Permit within one (1) month of employment as a condition of work.

We are asking for a commitment through our 10-week program, from end of May - AugustPreference will be given to candidates that are available to work up to 40 hours per week throughout the program. If you are a top candidate, your availability and assigned schedule will be discussed with you before moving into the background check process.
