November 16, 2020 BASIC FUNCTION: Plan, organize, direct and implement the District athletic activities, including recommending the purchase and rental of equipment and athletic facilities. Coach or assist coaches in various athletic programs. Serve as the district point of contact for athletic program questions from school, district and state personnel. To provide a well-rounded athletic program for the students, K-12 of Pendleton County and supervise district facility use by any athletic organization. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: Provides and demonstrates a commitment to interscholastic athletics as an educational enterprise. Provides assistance in the selection, assignment, and evaluation of athletic coaches. Cooperates with the Principal, Superintendent, and Board of Education in the development of appropriate rules and regulations concerning the conduct at athletic activities. Provide assistance to the school administration to prepare and administer the athletic program budget for each school. Assumes responsibility for the organization and scheduling of all athletic facilities. Provides assistance in requisitions, in cooperation with appropriate staff in purchasing supplies, uniforms, and equipment for the athletic program. Coordinates arrangements with coaches for transportation, housing, and food for all athletic teams scheduled away from home, if needed. Administers the insurance program covering school athletes and assumes the responsibility for all processing of claims and reports. Keeps records of the results of all high school athletic contests and award winners, including the date and type of award. Cooperates with the Maintenance Supervisor in recommending and supervising the proper maintenance of all athletic facilities. Make arrangements for athletic banquets (receptions) and provides general supervision for the award system for the program. Fosters good school-community relations by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the athletic program. Works with all Principals to insure that any group wishing to use a school facility for athletic activities is properly scheduled and the facility is opened, closed, cleaned and supervised properly. Works with local community organizations and district coaches to develop athletic opportunities for school age youth in Pendleton County. Establishes partnerships with local business and industry to foster growth of sports program through the development of funding sources for athletics. Assist with district wide athletic booster organization. Assist schools and district in securing grants for athletic opportunities. Assist with supervision of school athletic events: high school, middle school, and elementary schools in conjunction with site managers. Performs such other duties as directed by the Superintendent from time to time. Oversee all Title IX compliance and reporting issues for athletics in the district. Prepare, deliver or assist with training opportunities as appropriate. Perform related duties as assigned. Maintains regular attendance. It is an essential job function that all employees report to work. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Fundamentals of various sports. Health and safety regulations. Oral and written communication skills Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy Public speaking techniques Research methods and report writing techniques Laws, rules and regulations related to assigned activities Policies and objectives of assigned programs and activities Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy Principles of training and providing work direction Technical aspects of field of specialty. ABILITY TO: Assist coaches on one or more sports. Understand and follow oral and written directions. Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Work independently with little direction. Prepare and deliver oral presentations. Maintain records and prepare reports. Compile and verify data and prepare reports. Prioritize and schedule work. Maintain current knowledge of program rules, regulations, requirements and restrictions. Maintain current knowledge of technological advances in the field. Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Plan and organize work. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing Learn and apply office policies, rules and practices. Understand and follow oral and written directions. Meet schedules and time lines/deadlines. Work cooperatively with others. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions. Work is performed with standing, sitting and/or walking Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching Requires the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull light weights up to approximately 20 pounds Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable a person with a disability to perform the essential functions of the job. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Holds at a minimum a Bachelor’s Degree; preferred holds a Master’s Degree in Sports Administration with course work in business, finance, or physical education preferred. Three years of experience as a coach and/or Athletic Director. Knowledge of coaching techniques in multiple sports. Strong leadership skills and highly organized. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Current certification in first aid and CPR.
