Under the general supervision of the Director of Marketing & Business Development and Executive leadership, the Media & Marketing Analyst (MMA) performs professional‑level duties requiring independent research, data interpretation, and effective communication. The incumbent analyzes marketing and media trends to formulate in‑house creative strategies and high‑impact video content. The MMA evaluates daily marketing operations and interprets performance metrics to support interim events and California State Fair programs. Working collaboratively, the incumbent reconciles website data, monitors social media engagement for accuracy, and assesses customer inquiries to ensure all organizational messaging aligns with statutory requirements and branding objectives.

Working Conditions

Department Information The California Exposition & State Fair (Cal Expo) mission is to create and provide a State Fair experience reflecting California, including its industries, agriculture, and diversity of its people, traditions and trends shaping its future through competitions, exhibits, events, displays, entertainment and education during the State Fair and throughout the year.

The position requires a valid California Drivers License (CDL). Applicants must provide CDL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements/restrictions on their application.

Describe your experience developing and analyzing a social media strategy. What research did you conduct, and what data or performance metrics did you analyze to inform the strategy and evaluate its effectiveness?

Describe your experience monitoring and analyzing media coverage or digital performance to identify trends or issues. How did your analysis support leadership decision‑making or inform recommended responses?

Describe your communications and creative experience. How have you applied analytical thinking and technical knowledge, including the use of creative software such as Adobe Creative Cloud, to develop content and evaluate the effectiveness of messaging?

How has the experience described above prepared you to successfully perform the essential functions of this position as outlined in the duty statement?

Desired Qualifications

Strong knowledge of social media strategy, content creation, platform management, and analytics, including Meta, Instagram, YouTube, X, TikTok.

Proficiency in video production and multimedia storytelling (writing, filming, photography, editing, post‑production).

Expertise in Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and familiarity with Canva.

Experience supporting in‑house creative production workflows and content management systems (e.g., WordPress).

Familiarity with digital marketing tools and analytics (Google Analytics, email platforms).

Knowledge of media planning and buying concepts.

Ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Strong work ethic, dependability, flexibility, and commitment to continuous learning.

Demonstrated professionalism, discretion, and ability to maintain confidentiality.

Outstanding customer service skills.

Ability to work independently or cooperatively in a team‑based environment, exercising sound judgment and initiative.
