As a Property Underwriter, you will play a critical role in evaluating new and existing business applications to determine risk, coverage, and premiums according to company policies and guidelines. Depending on your level of experience, you may work with routine, complex, or highly specialized risks, serve as a mentor to other underwriters, and collaborate across departments to ensure sound underwriting decisions. Key responsibilities include:

Review applications, inspections, loss history, valuations, and related data to assess risk and determine appropriate coverage and pricing. Accept, decline, or modify coverage in line with underwriting authority and guidelines. Research unique risks and stay current on industry trends, legal requirements, and best practices. Communicate decisions, coverage details, and recommendations to agents, field personnel, and internal teams in a clear, professional manner. Provide training, guidance, and mentorship to less experienced team members (Senior Underwriter). Contribute to process improvements, product evaluation, and special projects. What You Bring

Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess complex data and make sound underwriting decisions. Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building abilities. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with others. Commitment to delivering exceptional customer service to internal and external stakeholders. Adaptability in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and products. Requirements to Succeed

Underwriter: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area (or equivalent work experience). Intermediate Underwriter: Bachelor’s degree plus at least 2 years of property & casualty underwriting experience; AINS designation preferred. Senior Underwriter: Bachelor’s degree plus at least 5 years of property & casualty underwriting experience; API designation or completion of 3+ CPCU courses preferred. Proven ability to perform effectively at the respective level. Proficiency in computer systems and the ability to learn new technology. Bilingual (Spanish) skills are an asset but not required.
