
The Technical Sales Engineer – HVAC is responsible for driving revenue growth by providing technical expertise and consultative sales support for HVAC systems, equipment, and engineered solutions. This role partners with contractors, consulting engineers, facility managers, and end users to design, specify, and sell HVAC products and systems that meet performance, efficiency, and budget requirements.
The ideal candidate combines strong HVAC technical knowledge with the ability to build relationships and close business.
Key Responsibilities Technical Sales & Business Development
Develop and grow relationships with mechanical contractors, consulting engineers, OEMs, and facility owners
Identify new business opportunities and drive revenue growth within assigned territory
Conduct product presentations, lunch-and-learns, and technical seminars
Prepare proposals, bids, and project quotations
Support project take-offs and system selection
Size and select HVAC equipment including air handlers, chillers, rooftop units, boilers, VRF systems, and controls
Interpret blueprints, mechanical schedules, and specifications
Provide system design recommendations based on project requirements
Ensure compliance with ASHRAE standards, energy codes, and local regulations
Collaborate with internal engineering teams on custom solutions
Project & Account Management
Manage projects from specification through order fulfillment
Coordinate with operations, manufacturing, and service teams to ensure customer satisfaction
Support commissioning and startup when required
Resolve technical issues and provide post-sale support
Market & Product Expertise
Stay current on HVAC industry trends, energy efficiency standards, and emerging technologies
Track competitor offerings and market conditions
Support product launches and marketing initiatives
Qualifications Education
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC Engineering, or related technical field preferred
Equivalent HVAC field experience will be considered
Experience
3+ years of experience in HVAC technical sales, application engineering, or mechanical contracting
Strong understanding of commercial and/or industrial HVAC systems
Experience working with consulting engineers and design-build contractors preferred
Technical Skills
Proficiency in HVAC load calculations and equipment selection
Familiarity with software such as Trane Trace, Carrier HAP, AutoCAD, or similar
Understanding of building automation systems (BAS)
Knowledge of ASHRAE standards and energy efficiency requirements
Ability to read mechanical drawings and specifications

Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
