Overview The Light is a major new cultural venue opening summer 2026, expected to host 80,000–100,000 visitors annually. It will bring together art, science, history, creativity and community within beautiful natural grounds, featuring a contemporary exhibition programme, a DLI Gallery, café, retail and private event spaces.
Responsibilities
Lead County Durham’s newest cultural landmark, shaping its vision from day one.
Build the venue from the ground up, establishing and maintaining its artistic vision, operational model, reputation, and cultural impact.
Develop and implement an ambitious contemporary exhibition programme showcasing world‑class creativity from the North East, UK and worldwide.
Oversee the design and delivery of community and learning spaces, café, retail offer, and private event and conference facilities.
Ensure the venue sets a new standard for each visitor, encouraging repeat visits and community engagement.
