The Director of Athletics is under the direct supervision of the Vice President for Business Affairs and is responsible for coordinating all aspects of MSC’s competitive teams.

Responsibilities

Supervise, evaluate, resolve conflicts, and develop morale of coaching staff.

Develop a yearly plan to increase attendance and public awareness of athletic events; collaborate with coaches on marketing strategy.

Coordinate friend and fundraising outreach in collaboration with the Office of External Affairs.

Plan and implement annual athletic department fundraising events.

Secure sponsorships for events, programs, and facilities.

Assess current needs, design and implement a two‑year plan to develop new financial resources for athletic scholarships and operations.

Create and distribute promotional materials such as press releases, programs, brochures, and newsletters.

Work with College marketing and public information teams to prepare press releases and arrange media coverage for events not managed by the SID.

Foster effective relationships with coaches, staff, and faculty to promote campus‑wide support of athletics.

Develop a public relations plan and schedule coaches and athletes to serve as speakers for civic organizations.

Schedule use of athletic facilities, fitness center, and act as liaison to physical maintenance department to ensure an adequate maintenance schedule.

Delegate responsibilities to appropriate personnel to ensure proper set‑up of facilities before all home events.

Organize personnel necessary for home athletic events (ticket takers, scorekeepers, maintenance, concession workers, etc.).

Delegate administrative and daily responsibilities to coaches.

Prepare the Equity in Athletics Survey for the U.S. Department of Education.

Coordinate with NJCAA to ensure all eligibility policies and procedures are adhered to.

Foster relationships with community, area high‑school coaches, etc., and take an active role in civic and charitable events.

Review and recommend revisions to athletic department procedures and coordinate athletic scholarships.

Review and approve all travel requests, purchase orders, leave requests before submission to the Vice President for Business Affairs.

Represent MSC Athletic Department at state conference and regional NJCAA meetings; develop positive relationships with Region II Athletic Directors and the NJCAA national office.

Serve as chair on selection committee for screening new athletic staff and provide guidance with disciplinary issues.

Monitor all auxiliary accounts such as Athletic Clubs, Concessions, Athletic Camps, and Athletic Scholarships.

Serve on campus‑wide committees as assigned and contribute substantially to committee goals.

Qualifications

Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Preferred: Master’s degree in a related field.

Preferred: 2 years of experience in a related field.

Demonstrate dedication to student services and exhibit enthusiasm and professionalism in all responsibilities.

Maintain a neat, professional image at all times; keep a clean, well‑groomed appearance.

Consent to a formal background check; employment is contingent upon the results of a national criminal and sex‑offender background check.
