Position Description This is a Full‑time, Permanent, Safety‑Sensitive position with the Anne Arundel County Police Department.

Signing Bonus A $10,000 signing bonus will be awarded to successful candidates. The bonus will be paid in installments:

$1,000 payable upon hire.

$4,000 payable upon successful completion of the Police Academy.

$5,000 payable upon successful completion of the probationary period.

Responsibilities This role involves responsibility for performing duties in patrol, traffic, investigations, administration, and support services under general supervision. Duties include shift work, outdoor work, and exposure to dangerous conditions.

Examples of duties and required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Safe operation of a motor vehicle during day and night and all weather conditions.

Patrol and respond to a variety of criminal activities, evaluate situations, and determine appropriate course of action.

Conduct overt and covert observation of people and places, respond to emergencies, and react to audio information.

Stand, sit, walk, and drive for prolonged periods.

Pursue and subdue prisoners; apply necessary physical restraint and force.

Respond to land or water accidents; perform rescue functions, provide first aid, direct traffic.

Perform overtime, shift work, and standby as required.

Qualify with firearms (handgun and shotgun) and self‑defense skills after training.

Complete written reports and use police radio for communication.

Lift or drag objects (e.g., human beings); perform other physical activities.

Respond to calls for service and interact with the public.

Perform administrative duties: court testimony, maintain case files, prepare reports and correspondence.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Learn and apply police/law enforcement principles, practices, and equipment.

Work under adverse, dangerous conditions and extended periods.

Evaluate and respond to situations professionally and diffuse difficult situations.

Operate motor vehicles and police equipment.

Interpret and follow rules, orders, regulations, written and oral instructions.

Maintain effective relationships with superiors, colleagues, and the public.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Successful completion of recruit training and probationary period.

Valid non‑commercial Class C motor vehicle operator’s license.

Additional Requirements

Must be at least 21 years old by October 13, 2027.

U.S. citizenship required.

Safety‑sensitive position requiring Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) and alcohol testing.

Background investigation, medical and psychological evaluation required.

Conditional Offer : Upon offer, applicants must complete a polygraph examination, psychological evaluation, and comprehensive medical examination.

Online Entry Level Police Officer Exam Tentatively scheduled for May 29, 2026 through June 12, 2026 (one attempt only).

Requirements to take the exam:

Private workspace with no one present.

Strong internet connection.

Computer/laptop with a working webcam.

Updated browser (Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft).

Current driver’s license.

30‑minute exam: 100 multiple‑choice questions. Competencies measured: Attention to Detail, Conflict Management, Conscientiousness, Critical Thinking, Decision Making, Handling Stress, Honesty and Integrity, Mathematical Reasoning, Problem Solving, Professional Skills/Work Attitudes, Reading Comprehension, Social Judgment, Written Expression.

Physical Agility Test Must be passed to proceed. Two sessions available:

Saturday, June 13, 2026 – 9am at Charles B. Butch Troyer Training Center (3737 Elmer F. Hagner Lane, Davidsonville, MD 21035).

Saturday, June 20, 2026 – 9am at same location.

Participants must bring government‑issued ID and signed waivers.

Application Deadline Friday, May 15, 2026 at 11:59 PM.

Start Date Thursday, February 25, 2027 (anticipated hire date for final offers).
