The Air Freight Lead is responsible for overseeing air freight operations at the branch level. This role ensures efficient, compliant, and profitable handling of import and export air freight shipments. The Air Product Lead develops a thorough understanding of our clients’ shipping requirements and patterns; demonstrates sound customer service and data entry skills; and develops job related knowledge to support growth within current position and further career development.
Duties and Responsibilities
Manage day-to-day air freight activities to ensure timely and cost-effective movement of cargo. Support the air freight operations team, including import and export operations. Resolve customer issues promptly and professionally. Maintain courteous, prompt, and efficient customer relations. Ensure the proper use of freight management systems and documentation standards. Ensure compliance with all international air freight regulations (IATA, TSA, customs, etc.). Monitor and control costs, billing accuracy, and profit margins on air freight files. Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement improvements to enhance service quality. Participate as an effective team member with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Collaborate with Managers and Head of Air Product on Product Development and growth within the assigned branch. Responsible for Airfreight RFQ support, by both securing and compiling rates where needed. Subject Matter Expert in (CargoWise) and rate management software tools (Web Cargo) to build rates. Develop and maintain relationships with airlines, ground handlers, customs, and key service providers. Stay updated with market trends, airline schedules, and changes in regulations. Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of global service offerings to educate /engage the customer as their transportation needs require. Support business development by identifying growth opportunities and process efficiencies. Coordinate with the sales team to support customer needs and provide pricing solutions. Comply with all necessary procedures to ensure a clean, properly organized, safe and healthy environment for all personnel. Proven experience in air freight forwarding (3+ years preferred). Knowledge of air freight import/export regulations and documentation. Familiarity with airline booking systems and freight management platforms (e.g., Cargowise, SAP TM). Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills. Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities. IATA/FIATA certification (preferred). Preferred Qualifications
Experience with CargoWise and WebCargo (preferred). Freight pricing experience. Physical Requirements
The job is performed indoors in a traditional office setting. Activities include extended periods of sitting while working at a computer and occasional fast-paced operations and events. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to communicate orally with customers, vendors, management, and co-workers. Regular use of the telephone, virtual meetings, and e-mail for communication. Hearing, vision, and speaking within normal ranges are essential for normal conversations, to receive ordinary information, and to prepare or inspect documents. Good manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment such as computers, calculators, and copiers. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, handle, use hands to grasp, or feel and operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and telephone keypad.
