Quality Specialist Soft Goods role
is responsible for ensuring textile-based aerospace assemblies meet all engineering, customer, and regulatory requirements throughout production and at final release. This role focuses specifically on soft goods such as insulation blankets, thermal barriers, sewn assemblies, protective covers, and composite-backed fabric systems. The position safeguards product integrity by inspecting workmanship, dimensional accuracy, material traceability, and compliance to drawings and specifications, while maintaining accurate records within our ERP system.
This role is not limited to inspection. You will function as a quality specialist embedded with production and quality engineering, driving issue resolution, supporting root cause analysis, and protecting product integrity before shipment. You will work directly with sewn assemblies, thermal blankets, insulation systems, composite-backed fabrics, and other soft goods critical to aerospace applications.
Key Responsibilities
Perform in-process and final inspections of aerospace soft goods and textile assemblies
Verify compliance to engineering drawings, specifications, customer flow-downs, and workmanship standards
Inspect stitching quality, seam integrity, edge finishing, hardware installation, bonding, labeling, and overall configuration accuracy
Confirm dimensional requirements, material types, thread specifications, and special process compliance
Identify defects related to fabric damage, foreign object inclusion, improper assembly, cosmetic concerns, and structural nonconformities
Generate and process Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and support MRB review and disposition activities
Partner with Quality Engineering on root cause analysis, corrective actions, and containment plans
Support implementation of preventive actions to reduce repeat defects and rework
Assist in reviewing travelers, inspection plans, and quality documentation for accuracy and completeness
Support internal audits, customer audits, and compliance to AS9100 requirements
Maintain accurate inspection records and product traceability within the ERP/QMS system
Act as a quality presence on the production floor, reinforcing standards and driving accountability
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required
Direct experience inspecting or building aerospace soft goods, sewn assemblies, insulation blankets, or technical textile products
Strong understanding of textile workmanship criteria for aerospace applications
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, revisions, tolerances, and specification requirements
Working knowledge of NCR processes, MRB workflows, and corrective action practices
Ability to support root cause analysis and collaborate with engineering and production teams
Experience entering and maintaining records in ERP/QMS systems
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand or walk for extended periods
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in aerospace, defense, or space manufacturing environments
Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality management systems
Experience reviewing special process documentation, certifications, and configuration control records
Familiarity with JobBOSS or Epicor ERP systems
Experience supporting internal or external audits
Exposure to FOD prevention practices in textile assembly environments
Additional Requirements
Willingness to work long hours and weekends when needed to meet critical deadlines
Willingness to travel to customers’ locations or other Hera sites as needed
Ability to use a computer and most common software programs to complete assignments
Ability to communicate with individuals and groups in person, by phone and online
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
Total compensation will also include a comprehensive set of benefits including but not limited to: Company paid employee medical, dental and vision insurance. Retirement plan participation (eligibility required), paid sick leave, paid vacation, paid holidays and discretionary bonuses.
