Camp Counselor Lead

Under general supervision, the Recreation Leader I/II provides essential support to recreation programs and services by performing custodial tasks, event setup and teardown, program support, and minor maintenance duties at various facilities, including parks and community centers. This temporary, part-time position requires working up to 20 hours per week. The role involves ensuring the facilities are clean, safe, and operational while delivering excellent customer service. Performs other duties as assigned. Oversee and guide program staff in their daily duties, ensuring high standards of supervision, engagement, and participant safety. Assist in planning, organizing, and scheduling program activities to create a balanced and enjoyable experience. Address behavioral issues and manage group dynamics and foster a positive environment for participants and staff. Enforce safety protocols, emergency response procedures, and monitor the physical and emotional well-being of all participants. Serve as a liaison between camp counselors/program staff, families, and City Staff, addressing concerns and maintaining effective communication. Oversee staff tasks, support logistical operations, and ensure adherence to camp policies, health, and safety regulations. Model positive behavior, establish rapport with families, and maintain accurate program records. Mediate participant disputes, assist camp counselors/program staff with behavior management, and provide ongoing support and assistance to staff, participants, and volunteers. Communicate program updates and recommend improvements for materials and equipment. Ensure familiarity with and readiness for all emergency procedures and other tasks as directed by Supervisor. Education and Experience: Graduation from high school or GED equivalent. Two years of customer service or service in the recreation industry experience preferred. Skills and Abilities: Facility operations, customer service, basic event/program management, and safety practices. Ability to use custodial and operational equipment, communicate effectively, and work independently. Special Requirements: Ability to obtain a current First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. Ability to obtain a current California Food Handler Card. Ability to obtain a current Driver's License and clean driving record is preferred.
