Instrumentation, Controls, and Electrical Designer

It is the responsibility of the Mid-Level ICE Designer to support a detailed design and drafting for Instrumentation, Controls, and Electrical (ICE) projects across GasTech Engineering’s portfolio. This role bridges technical drafting and design coordination, ensuring constructible, code-compliant design packages. The position requires field-aware design judgment, familiarity with industrial systems, and the ability to coordinate across engineering disciplines and vendors.

The ideal candidate has hands‑on experience translating engineering intent into complete drawing packages and can proactively identify design or constructability issues in the early stages of project development.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop and check detailed ICE design packages, including wiring diagrams, loop drawings, panel layouts, and conduit schedules

Interpret P&IDs and general arrangements to produce accurate design deliverables

Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other designers to ensure alignment between design intent and field execution

Perform redline updates, drawing revisions, and BOM development with version control discipline

Route conduit and cable to NEC and NFPA codes, considering practical installation constraints

Support equipment and instrument specification, tagging, and standardization

Maintain and update drawing libraries, templates, and standard design blocks

Communicate design changes clearly across departments and to external vendorsParticipate in design reviews and assist in resolving fabrication or installation issues

Support document control and drawing vault management per company procedures

Contribute to the development of GasTech’s ICE design standards and best practices

Requiremen

Education /Experience: Associate’s degree or technical diploma in design/drafting or related field; minimum 5 years of ICE design experience in industrial or energy sectors

Software: Proficiency in AutoCAD, Plant 3D, or CADWorx; preferred but not required

Experience with EPLAN or other electrical design tools; preferred but not required

Solid understanding of instrumentation symbols, wiring conventions, and control system layouts; preferred but not required

Familiarity with conduit fittings, NEC/NFPA codes, and industrial wiring practices is require

Ability to interpret and generate panel layout drawings, termination diagrams, and I/O schematics

Builds and maintains clear, professional communication among field technicians, engineers, and vendors; is required

Organized, self-directed, and able to manage multiple priorities

Detail-oriented with commitment to accuracy and constructabilies

Experience in oil & gas or process plant design and exposure to ISO 9001 workflows; is preferred but not required
