About Gulph Mills Golf Club
Gulph Mills Golf Club is an exclusive, private golf club located in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania with a variety of amenities available to our 368 members and their guests. Originally designed by Donald Ross, this course has been touched by many great architects like Perry Maxwell, Robert Trent Jones and, most recently, Gil Hanse. 13,000 rounds are played per year, and the club has an active caddie program.
Tom Gilbert is entering his 23rd season as the Head Golf Professional at Gulph Mills. He was the Philadelphia PGA Bill Strausbaugh Award recipient in 2017 and the 2016 Merchandiser of the Year. Tom has mentored and placed 8 of his former assistants into their own head golf professional positions at reputable clubs. This position will grant the successful candidate an opportunity to become well‑versed in all key areas of the business while advancing their career as a PGA Golf Professional. This is a seasonal position with the busy season beginning in the middle of April and spanning through the end of October.
Position Summary The Assistant Golf Professional will play an integral role in the daily operation of the golf program at Gulph Mills. Responsibilities include supporting tournament operations, assisting with merchandising and retail management, providing instruction to members, and delivering exceptional service to the membership and their guests.
This role is designed to develop the next generation of golf leadership, offering hands‑on experience and mentorship to prepare the candidate for a future Head Golf Professional position.
Key Responsibilities Golf Operations
Assist in the daily management of golf shop operations
Provide exceptional service to members and guests
Manage tee sheets, check‑in, and point‑of‑sale transactions
Support the pace of play and course flow during busy periods
Tournament & Event Operations
Assist with planning, organizing, and executing member tournaments and events
Manage tournament setup, scoring, and results using tournament software
Coordinate with club staff to ensure successful event execution
Assist with merchandising displays and retail operations
Support inventory management and product organization
Contribute ideas to enhance the golf shop retail experience
Instruction & Player Development
Provide golf instruction to members and guests
Assist with clinics, junior programming, and player development initiatives
Promote and grow participation in instructional programs
Qualifications
PGA Member or Associate preferred (or actively pursuing PGA Membership)
Several years of experience in a private club golf operation
Experience with merchandising, tournament operations, and teaching
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Passion for service, the game of golf, and professional development
Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a high‑energy professional with a strong work ethic and desire to lead. They should be eager to learn, take initiative, and embrace mentorship while gaining the experience necessary to become a Head Golf Professional.
This role is designed for a professional who aspires to advance into a Head Golf Professional position within the next two to three years, with exposure to the operational, retail, instructional, and leadership aspects of a successful private club golf program.
