BACKGROUND The Village of Fox Lake (population 10,978) is located 55 miles northwest of downtown Chicago and 20 miles west of Waukegan, Illinois. Fox Lake is located in Lake and McHenry counties. The Village is located on the South Shore of Pistakee Lake, Nippersink Lake, and Fox Lake, three connected water bodies that form part of the Chain O’Lakes system. The Village of Fox Lake has a total area of 9.942 square miles of which around 20% is water. The Village offers a vibrant lakeside community with thriving local businesses, recreational amenities, and a focus on sustainable growth.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The essential functions listed below are intended to illustrate the type of work performed. Omission of specific duties does not exclude them if work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.
Lead and implement the Village’s economic development and tourism strategies.
Provide guidance to the Building Commissioner regarding zoning, land use, and building code administration.
Oversee business recruitment, retention, and development proposals, providing strategic recommendations.
Prepare and manage departmental budgets, grants, and capital projects.
Supervise and mentor all Community & Economic Development Department staff.
Prepare agendas, reports, and presentations for commissions, boards, and Village leadership.
Serve as the Village’s liaison to elected officials, community stakeholders, and outside agencies.
Direct special projects, such as TIF studies, incentive programs, and redevelopment initiatives.
Perform related tasks as requested or required.
QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Urban or Regional Planning, Public Administration, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (Master’s or AICP Certification preferred).
5–7 years of progressively responsible experience with management or supervisory responsibilities in a municipal organization or related environment.
Valid Class D Driver’s License required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong leadership, strategic planning, budgeting, grant management, and public communication skills.
Ability to establish professional relationships with staff, officials, contractors, and the public.
