
Civil Designer

The Planet Group is seeking a Senior Sitework Designer I with 10+ years of related experience to support heavy industrial and infrastructure projects. This role is responsible for developing detailed 3D sitework models, grading and drainage designs, coordinating across disciplines, and supporting construction activities through field verification and constructability reviews. Travel up to 25% is required.
Key Responsibilities Design & Modeling
Develop 3D models and detailed design drawings for site grading and drainage systems.
Prepare site layouts and conceptual designs for industrial facilities.
Produce clear, concise, and technically accurate drawing notes and documentation.
Coordination & Review
Review and comment on vendor drawings for compliance with project requirements.
Coordinate design efforts with other engineering disciplines, clients, and contractors.
Participate in cross-functional design reviews and project meetings.
Prepare material takeoffs and assist with cost estimating activities.
Support project documentation and technical reporting requirements.
Perform site walk-downs for field verification of existing conditions.
Address constructability issues and provide design clarifications during construction.
Required Qualifications
10+ years of related sitework design experience.
Technical degree preferred.
Proficiency in AutoCAD required.
Extensive 3D modeling experience strongly preferred.
Strong technical writing skills with the ability to produce clear and concise documentation.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Experience in heavy industrial, power generation, paper mill, or petrochemical environments.
Knowledge of environmental regulations, including:
Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM)
Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ)
Florida Department of Environmental Protection (Florida DEP)
Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships with plant personnel, engineering teams, and vendors.
Additional Requirements
Ability to travel approximately 25% of the time.
