We provide specialized knowledge in on‑farm programs, alternative grains, both form and function, and internal expertise from field to fork. The Emerging Nutrition group is a dedicated team committed to cultivating the future of alternative grains and plant‑based ingredients.

The Role Under the direction of the Specialty Grain Risk Merchant, the Specialty Grain Originator is a “boots on the ground” person who will cover Emerging Nutrition origination in the Palouse region. This role will build producer relationships while originating alternative grains, pulses, and organic wheat to support the Emerging Nutrition Product Portfolio. The Originator should understand origination strategies, commodity price direction, futures/cash market relationships, wheat class spreads, freight, and customer specifications.

Organize, prioritize, and own multiple tasks while meeting or exceeding deadlines

Learn and apply new technology, sharing knowledge with others

Your Responsibilities

Frequent on‑farm visits with growers throughout the Palouse region.

Collaborate with the Specialty Grain Merchant to execute the Emerging Nutrition Alternative Grains origination strategy through market data analysis, customer needs, and market position.

Source specialty grains that align with business needs and growth opportunities to support the Ardent Mills Emerging Nutrition Product Portfolio, maximizing total business margin.

Engage customers and growers to understand their business, develop relationships, and become the supplier/partner of choice through calls, visits, and industry events.

Serve as a subject‑matter expert supporting strategy and growth plans for the business as needed.

Essential Skills & Experience

Bachelor’s Degree (required)

Minimum 5 years of experience in commodity origination, transaction principles, margin management, logistics, and freight planning

Knowledge of agriculture and agronomy production

Experience in a fast‑paced, transactional environment with accountability for direct revenue impact

Proven communication, teamwork, and leadership skills with the ability to deliver results by inspiring, serving others, and earning trust

Strong problem‑solving, analytical, and decision‑making skills with simplicity and transparency

Ability to formulate strategy and execute plans effectively

Team orientation and project management skills

Excellent written and verbal communication

Adaptability to changing conditions and change‑management leadership

Strong prioritization, time management, and project execution

Entrepreneurial spirit to drive innovation for the Emerging Nutrition Product Portfolio and specialty processing across the business

Nice To Have

Farm origination experience in the Palouse region.

Other Considerations

Ability to travel up to 50%

Remote position with a home base in Montana; periodic presence at Denver HQ as required.

Competitive Compensation Base salary range: $110,000 – $130,000, plus potential performance bonus (10% annual target). Additional earning potential commensurate with experience and contribution.
