JOB SUMMARY We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Fiber Splicer to join their team and contribute to the seamless installation and maintenance of fiber optic networks. The Fiber Splicer will be responsible for efficiently and accurately splicing fiber optic cables, conducting quality assurance tests, troubleshooting network issues, and ensuring optimal network performance. This role requires a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively both independently and within a team. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Fiber Splicing: Perform precise fusion splicing of fiber optic cables, ensuring low insertion loss and maintaining signal integrity. Utilize specialized equipment and tools to create permanent and reliable splices. Cable Preparation: Prepare fiber optic cables for splicing by stripping, cleaning, cleaving, and organizing fibers according to industry standards. Testing and Quality Assurance: Conduct comprehensive optical testing using OTDRs (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometers) and other testing equipment to verify splice quality, cable continuity, and network performance. Identify and troubleshoot any defects or irregularities in the network. Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all splicing activities, test results, and network configurations. Create detailed splice logs, test reports, and network schematics. Network Troubleshooting: Collaborate with network engineers and technicians to diagnose and resolve issues related to fiber optic connectivity, signal loss, or other network anomalies. Implement corrective actions to restore network functionality. Emergency Response: Respond to emergency situations promptly, working efficiently to repair and restore damaged fiber optic cables and network infrastructure. Participate in on-call rotation schedule for nights and weekends. Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and industry standards while working with fiber optic cables and equipment. Ensure a safe work environment for yourself and team members. Equipment Maintenance: Properly maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot splicing equipment and tools. Report any equipment malfunctions and assist with equipment maintenance and repair. Training and Development: Stay updated on industry trends, advancements in fiber optic technology, and best practices in splicing techniques. Participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge. QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent; relevant technical certifications preferred. Proven experience in fiber optic splicing and network installation, with a deep understanding of fiber types, connectors, and cable structures. Proficiency in using fusion splicing machines, cleavers, OTDRs, and other related tools. Strong knowledge of industry standards and best practices in fiber optic network installation, maintenance, and testing. Excellent attention to detail and manual dexterity for precise cable preparation and splicing. Ability to interpret and generate technical documentation, including splice logs, test reports, and network diagrams. Effective problem-solving skills to diagnose and troubleshoot network issues. Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders. Physical ability to work in various weather conditions and confined spaces, as required. Ability to work in varying weather conditions is required. Ability to occasional lift, climb and working in confined spaces is required. While performing the duties of the job, the associate is required on a daily basis to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain or wind.
