Youth Ministry Internship Thornapple Community Church

Reformed Church in America (Bahrain), Grand Rapids, MI, United States

Hours:

5 hours/week (flexible, more/less as needed); can work in conjunction with an internship through schooling, or as a personal interest apart from classroom requirements.

Pay:

$1,000 stipend per semester

This internship is intentionally designed to be highly flexible, accommodating the unique needs, schedules, and vocational hopes of the individual serving in the role. The primary aim of this position is to support and invest in the intern’s growth, equipping them to reach—and exceed—their youth ministry goals. The following outlines the minimum expectations of the internship:

Term Commitment:

The Youth Ministry Intern is expected to serve during Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 (one school year).

Sunday Night Youth Group:

Weekly participation from 5:30–8:00 PM. Youth Group begins in mid‑September, follows school break schedules, and concludes in early May (approximately 2.5 hours per week).

Weekly Connection:

A weekly 30–60 minute meeting with the Youth Director, Aidan Hillman, focused on mentorship, support, and relational connection. In‑person meetings are preferred, with virtual options available when necessary.

Retreat Participation:

Attendance at Fall and Winter Retreats (typically Saturday–Sunday; approximately two days per semester). There is no Sunday night youth group during retreat weeks, and post‑retreat flexibility is offered in recognition of the weekend time commitment.

Student Connection:

Intentional relational engagement with students outside of weekly programming (e.g., attending events, meeting for coffee, offering support), totaling approximately 5–10 hours per semester.

This position is ideal for students seeking to fulfill a ministry (especially youth) internship. Beyond basic expectations, interns may take on additional responsibilities—such as teaching or event planning—as desired.

The intern will report to our Director of Youth Ministry, and to the Senior Pastor as needed.
