Through the internship you will learn best practices, take part in our regular meetings, and learn the various types of work we do. The interns will have a mentor and support from station staff from multiple departments. These are paid internships based out of Concord, NH.
News Internships – Reporting This intern will work as a general assignment reporter in the newsroom, getting daily news assignments, pitching their own ideas for quick-turn and longer-term stories, and learning how to build a network of diverse sources. The intern will learn journalistic ethics, the various types of reporting we do, and how to produce a news story for audio, digital and social media. The intern will spend a fair amount of time in the field reporting stories and then coming back to the newsroom to work closely with an editor on how to turn their reporting into a fully fleshed‑out piece of journalism.

Excellent writing skills
Strong interest in local news and building trust with local audiences
Ability to work independently and efficiently
Interest in public media
Consistent and reliable transportation (required for travel within NH)
Broadcast Production Internship – Programming Team The Broadcast Production intern will work with the broadcast production team on on‑air voice tracking and music programming, write promotional scripts and work with archival audio. The intern will be trained in the basic use of NHPR’s Studio Core system and in operating the SAS Rubicon console to record voice breaks and produce other assigned production elements. The role includes opportunities to collaborate with producers on "Live from the Word Barn" and "Live from Studio D," and to help develop and produce literary programming for our NHPR Books series. This internship offers hands‑on experience in broadcast production, live event support, and content development for public radio.
Qualifications for the Broadcast Production Internship
Initiative and curiosity
Excellent writing skills
Experience with sound design and basic music production tools
Ability to manage tasks independently while working efficiently in a collaborative environment

Job Requirements – Compensation & Benefits Internships are temporary full‑time, non‑exempt, hourly positions. Compensation is $17.50 an hour and a $500 stipend is provided that can be used for housing, transportation, or relocation. Interns are not eligible for benefits, but receive two paid holidays and can participate in NHPR’s 403(b) plan.
Things to Know About Us NHPR is the state’s foremost news organization, focused on producing accountability journalism and engaging deeply with the diverse communities and people of the Granite State. We produce nationally prominent podcasts—including "Bear Brook," "Outside/In," "Civics 101," and "Document"—and have a fast‑growing footprint in digital and social media.
NHPR’s mission commits us to telling the stories of our changing state. That requires our organization and our journalism to reflect – and embrace – the increasingly diverse perspectives of people across New Hampshire and beyond. We model inclusion in our sources, voices, reporting, and conversations; in the makeup of our staff, Board of Trustees, and Community Advisory Board; and in the ways we spend money and conduct our business.
