Scholarship Position Description
This position is awarded a scholarship for 2026-2027. All scholarships are determined by position, time commitment, responsibility, and financial budget determined in April. Expectations
ATTENTION: This position requires a significant time commitment. If you are chosen and accept this position, it will be expected that you can satisfactorily meet the time commitment necessary. This means that you agree to not accept other positions outside of student media or otherwise make commitments that will impact your ability to meet these expectations.
- Strategic Vision and Platform Oversight
- Oversee daily multimedia production across the Chronicle, setting expectations and goals for multimedia and social media production in conjunction with executive leadership and student media advisors.
- Oversee the general vision for social media and online engagement, ensuring content is published across all platforms in a timely manner.
- Create and manage the multimedia budget, coordinating each team’s content during Editorial Board and using Slack consistently for workflow.
- Oversee the Chronicle’s multimedia and social media platforms and moderate comments.
- Review the Chronicle’s website and print editions regularly, bringing any problems to the attention of the Editor-in-Chief and Managing Editor.
- Regularly respond to messages via Slack and Gmail and attend all mandatory meetings.
- Director and Team Management
- Manage the directors of newsletter, podcast, and social media, meeting regularly to coordinate strategy, provide training, and offer support in leading contributors.
- Communicate and encourage communication between and among all staff members regarding multimedia content, working to bridge gaps between desk editors and newsletter, podcast, and social media directors.
- Act as a third party, along with the Editor-in-Chief, to solve any disputes that may arise between teams.
- Evaluation
- Meet with the Managing Editor and Editor-in-Chief regularly to evaluate multimedia progress and address any ongoing challenges.
Qualifications
- Prior leadership and/or management experience preferred.
- Preference given to applicants with prior experience at The Chronicle or in Student Media.
- Must be able to commit to the demanding schedule and maintain high levels of activity and quality of work.
- Interest in and experience with journalism, news, or media preferred.
- Experience or knowledge of marketing, brand management, audience growth, and engagement preferred; willingness to study and learn required if not.
- Computer proficiency and willingness to learn new programs and software required.
- Must be enrolled student progressing satisfactorily toward a degree.
- Major or minor in mass communication, journalism, strategic communication, film, or a similar field preferred.

The experiential learning term is May 2026 through April 2027.
