Overall Purpose of the Role The Bid & Proposals Manager will lead and coordinate end-to-end bid activity across global Defence Land and Maritime opportunities, acting as Bid Captain for strategic pursuits while contributing directly to tender capture planning and win strategy development.

The role requires a structured, commercially astute professional with at least five years’ experience in bid management within Defence or similarly regulated environments. The successful candidate will have working knowledge of military procurement frameworks, contracting mechanisms, and negotiation practices across domestic and international markets.

Operating in close collaboration with the Contracts & Compliance Manager, the Bid & Proposals Manager will ensure that submissions are compliant, compelling, commercially robust, and aligned with corporate growth objectives. They will drive the success of our largest, most complex and significant revenue opportunities.

Main Responsibilities Bid Leadership (Bid Captain Role) Lead cross-functional bid teams from opportunity qualification through submission and handover.

Develop and maintain Bid Plans, responsibility matrices (RACI), schedules, and risk registers.

Own the production of high-quality, compliant tender responses (ITT, RFP, RFQ, PQQ).

Chair bid reviews (Gate Reviews, Red Team, Gold Team) and ensure governance compliance.

Coordinate technical, commercial, pricing, and contractual inputs into a cohesive submission.

Capture & Opportunity Development Contribute to capture planning activities, including competitive analysis and positioning.

Support development of win themes, value propositions, and differentiators.

Participate in early customer engagement, shaping requirements where appropriate.

Assist in bid/no-bid assessments and pipeline qualification processes.

Commercial & Contractual Interface Work closely with the Contracts & Compliance Manager to:

Ensure alignment with military procurement regulations and export controls.

Interpret contractual requirements and flow-down obligations.

Support commercial clarifications and negotiation preparation.

Contribute to pricing strategy development in collaboration with Finance and Commercial teams.

Governance & Process Excellence Implement structured bid management methodologies

Maintain bid documentation libraries, lessons learned, and continuous improvement processes.

Ensure adherence to internal governance, risk management, and audit standards.

Monitor bid KPIs, submission quality, and win-rate metrics.

Stakeholder & International Coordination Coordinate internal stakeholders including Engineering, Operations, Quality, Finance, and Supply Chain.

Support international sales teams across global Land and Maritime accounts.

Ensure cultural and regulatory awareness across export markets.

On-time, fully compliant, and high-quality bid submissions.

Structured Bid Plans and governance documentation for all strategic pursuits.

Clearly articulated win strategies and value propositions.

Risk registers and mitigation plans for each live opportunity.

Contribution to measurable improvement in bid win rates and margin performance.

Post-bid reviews and continuous improvement documentation.

Seamless handover from bid phase to contract execution.

Person Specification Education/Qualifications: Minimum 5+ years’ experience in bid or proposal management within Defence, aerospace, maritime, or regulated engineering sectors.

Skills/Experience: Demonstrable understanding of military procurement processes (e.g., MOD, NATO-aligned, or equivalent international frameworks).

Experience with contracting structures (e.g., fixed price, framework agreements, call-off contracts).

Strong negotiation awareness and commercial acumen.

Proven experience acting as team member on complex tenders.

Excellent written communication and structured document management capability.

Ability to operate autonomously in a hybrid working environment.

Familiarity with export control frameworks (e.g., ITAR, UK export licensing).

Experience supporting global sales organisations.

APMP or equivalent bid management accreditation.

Technical background in engineering or safety-critical systems.

Experience as a bid manager/lead on complex defence tenders.
