MSU Human Resources is seeking a Communications and Marketing Intern. The start date is flexible and can be anytime between summer 2026 and the start of the fall semester of the 2026-2027 academic year. The role would continue through the end of the academic year. This is a remote-friendly position with an hourly schedule. The option to work on-site may be arranged if desired.
Position Description The intern will be key in helping to market MSU Human Resources to the university community. MSU HR’s main audiences are our MSU employees (including faculty and support staff), retirees, and prospective employees. This individual would write articles for the HR SourceLive blog, update social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, and X), assist with graphics and marketing pieces, and other communication-related duties as assigned.
The communications intern will gain experience in:
Writing and editing content for print, web, and social media on various HR topics, including but not limited to:
Employee benefits
Professional and personal development opportunities
Employee awards, service and retirement recognition programs
University resources
Compiling social media analytics and making suggestions for improvement
Assist with creating social media graphics, presentations and other communication materials for MSU HR
The basics of website content management by learning HR’s content management system (CMS) and making simple website updates and edits to the HR website
This is a paid internship, and the candidate should be willing to work 12-15 hours per week (scheduled within 8-5, M-F). We are willing to consider credit or non-credit approaches. The intern will be issued a laptop by MSU Human Resources. They will need to be able to visit the Human Resources office on campus to pick up the laptop upon starting and again to return the laptop upon completion of the internship.
Minimum Qualifications
Reliable internet connection
Excellent writing skills
Friendly personality with effective verbal communication skills
Ability to prioritize/balance multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to work independently in a remote capacity with varying deadlines
Desired Qualifications
AP-style and blog writing skills
Experience with popular blog or website platforms such as Sitecore or WordPress
Experience using business social media accounts, such as Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.
Experience with Adobe design programs, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.
Experience with presentations, such as PowerPoint, Google Slides, etc.
Experience with marketing communications and/or public relations
