The Village of Channahon (Village) is a thriving community with a population of 13,383 (as of the 2020 Census) located 45 miles southwest of Chicago, just west of Joliet and east of Morris in southwest Will County and eastern Grundy County. Channahon encompasses portions of Channahon, Troy, and Aux Sable Townships. The Village employs approximately 90 full time, part time, elected, appointed, and seasonal employees in 5 departments.
Salary Range $91,000-$127,400 DOQ (expected hiring range between $91,000 and $105,000)
Position Summary This is a non-represented, exempt position with the responsibility to assist the Finance Director in all areas of the department and operations. The position involves performing technical accounting and fiscal management tasks. The position will also assist with the processing of financial reports, financial analysis, and relate records. Work is performed under the direction of the Village Finance Director, but requires a great deal of independent judgment and interaction with other Village officials, department heads, and Village staff.
Position Responsibilities The position involves oversight of day-to-day financial and accounting operations in accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and utility billing. The Assistant Finance Director will assist in developing and updating general operating procedures and/or administrative methods for the effective operation of the Finance Department. The position also requires the individual to assist and supervise staff in the performance of assigned duties.
Qualifications This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, or business and 2 years of experience in accounting, preferably in a municipal setting or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills including, but not limited to:
Applicable laws and administrative policies governing municipal finance practice and procedures;
Principles and practices of municipal accounting and fund accounting;
Principles and methods of organization, management, and supervision;
Processing payroll on a bi-weekly basis including, but not limited to, monthly, quarterly, and annual State and Federal reporting;
Preparation and review of accounts payable and accounts receivable;
Annual preparation and maintenance of capital asset additions, deletions, and depreciation;
Preparation, assistance, and review of the utility billing processes as well as addressing resident questions, inquiries, and issues; and
Preparation and completion of financial and cost analyses as necessary as well as monitoring fiscal operations for compliance with generally accepted accounting principles.
A background investigation is required for this position as it is a confidential and fiscally responsible position.
