Areas of Responsibility and Job Requirements The Social Programming Director is responsible for overseeing all social services support and programming for residents. This role is critical to the provision of services at Edenwald as it serves as the bridge that connects residents, on‑site property management, case management services and community services and programming. The Director will have experience in providing direct services/case management, as well as a background in community programming and services. The Director will use their knowledge of the residents’ needs – from both the Needs Assessment and communication with residents and resident leaders – to bring innovative programming to the property to complement the case management and other general social services support provided by existing nonprofit service providers at the site.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Assisting the nonprofit provider in the development and implementation of the resident needs assessment.
Identifying and documenting the services provided by nonprofits in and around Edenwald Houses. They will remain informed on these services so that there is always an up‑to‑date list of services and providers.
Serving as a liaison to community agencies, network with community providers, and seek out new (fee and no‑cost) services available to clients.
Establishing and maintaining a good working relationship with the nonprofit service providers in and around Edenwald Houses, and develop a system of referrals to these providers, potentially including the establishment of MOUs to support resident referrals.
Identifying resident needs, determine the programs that can fit those needs and identify service providers in the area and develop and award grants to deliver services to Edenwald Residents.
Collaborating with the third‑party Development team C+C/L+M departments such as Community Investment, Social Services, Community Affairs, and other staff to create a social service plan with budget and performance metrics.
Compiling and reporting on metrics of programs and services provided.
Developing and maintaining a Resource Directory that includes a listing of state and/or local service providers that resident can contact for assistance.
Consulting and collaborating with tenant associations in identifying residents’ needs, advocacy efforts while developing educational and wellness programs.
Reporting to the Director of Social Services with indirect supervision from the Community Investment Manager and the Edenwald General Manager.
Undertaking direct resident services as detailed in the Social Service Coordinator position responsibilities.
Coordination and communication with NYCHA Community Development and Real Estate.
Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field, preferred.
Master’s degree in business administration, social work, or related field, preferred.
Minimum Years of Experience Required
5+ years of industry experience.
5+ years’ in a leadership role within social services, preferred.
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Proficiency in MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Experience working with a supportive tenant base.
Proven experience in program management within residential tenant environment.
Prior experience managing a team.
Understanding of project management.
Must have strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to proactively anticipate and solve problems.
Must possess strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
Competencies/Essential Job Functions This position consists mainly of medium physical work. The position may require exertion of up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
The incumbent is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures (i.e., inspections, reports, etc.).
This role frequently requires the incumbent to reach objects, engage in repetitive movements with the wrist, hands, and fingers by typing; feel and touch objects with fingers, palm, and hands.
The role also requires incumbent to talk and hear, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken work and the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make distinctions in sound.
The role occasionally requires the incumbent to stand for sustained periods of time; walking and/or moving about on foot to accomplish tasks particularly for long distances; moving from one work site to another or occasionally in narrow aisles, hallways, or passageways; expected to climb, stoop, push, pull, grasp, lift up to 50 pounds.
This position will be occasionally subject to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions and temperature changes (extreme cold or extreme heat) with or without effective protection from the weather.
The incumbent may occasionally be subject to noise sufficient to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the noise.
