About Membership The Membership team is at the forefront of the ANA, focused on member retention and acquisition. Retention serves as the primary partners and advocates for our member companies, their marketing leaders, and teams to maximize their membership experience, while acquisition manages and grows existing and future relationships with potential member companies.
We build and maintain relationships with all members, guiding them with personalized strategies and proactively leading them to deepen their engagement within the ANA.

Role Overview As our membership base continues to grow, we are seeking an ambitious and energetic Business Development Director to join our dynamic team. Reporting to the Head of Membership, Business Development, this role will drive sustainable growth, all while forging strong relationships with CMOs, marketing leaders, and teams of the world’s premier brands, leading them to an ANA membership leveraging resources, tools, and connections. Key Responsibilities
Manage the entire sales cycle: prospecting, pitching, negotiations, and closing
Activate a network of new and existing relationships to generate and expand business opportunities within an assigned territory
Utilize strong communication, interpersonal and presentation skills to highlight the compelling value proposition of joining the ANA to all external stakeholders
Apply data, insights, and CRM intelligence to enhance partner value propositions, refine targeting and pipeline management, and strengthen revenue forecasting and decision-making
Lead with emotional intelligence, resilience, and ability to perform under high pressure and ambitious targets
Research new business opportunities across all industries, digging deeper into their marketing teams and structures to identify key contacts
Remain updated on the ANA’s offerings, industry knowledge and best practices
Adhere to ANA’s vetting process for new member acquisitions (eligibility, requirements, approval, etc.)
Stay closely attuned to trends across the marketing industry while monitoring the competitive landscape
Produce regular reports on sales activity, conversion rates, KPIs, and acquisition and revenue forecasts
Partner with internal teams to ensure development strategies enhance the prospect experience
Continuously update and maintain accurate records of prospective members
Achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual membership sales targets
Serve as a strategic advisor to the Head of Business Development
Travel as required to meet with members and prospects
Professional Experience and Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and strong sales and marketing background with ability to develop solid relationships with C-Suite and marketing leaders (minimum 5-7 years)
Influence & Relationship Building – Builds trust-based C-Suite relationships and navigates complex stakeholder landscapes
Operational Excellence – Prioritizes effectively, drives accountability, and delivers results at scale
Exceptional understanding of core business fundamentals
Demonstrate grit and adaptability navigating complexity and change
Low ego, high impact – you prioritize outcomes over credit
Proactive and flexible, a “roll up your sleeves and get it done” team player
Thrives in fluid environments with shifting priorities and complex stakeholder relationships
Data-Driven Decision Maker – Grounds strategy and prioritization in evidence and insights
Possess a persistent desire to go above and beyond
Able to meet tight deadlines and remain calm under pressure
Expertise in MS Office and CRM software
Salary and Total Rewards Package Starting pay range: $95,000 to $105,000, based on relevant experience and qualifications.
