Job Description

The Director is a 12-month, full-time professional staff member of the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) team in the Academic Advancement Center (AAC), and reports directly to the Executive Director of the Academic Advancement Center. The Director is responsible for the visioning, administrative oversight, and management of the CAMP unit. This professional is responsible for course instruction (teaching) and curriculum planning; and developing, implementing, and evaluating the programs and services to achieve project objectives and mission in accordance with federal legislation and regulations, EDGAR and OMB Uniform Guidance relevant to the administration of a CAMP project. In addition, the Director is responsible for completing reports (including Annual Performance Report to the U.S. Department of Education and CSU), leading holistic academic success initiatives, and supervising professional and undergraduate staff. The Director also serves as a primary instructor and direct student support for project participants and has the lead role for training and on-boarding new program staff. The Director works independently and creatively to build new program elements; has demonstrated commitment to the staff team; is a self-motivated team player with the ability to multi-task within a fast paced work environment; solves complex problems that often involve multiple partners; and understands the larger context and purpose of the Academic Advancement Center.

Essential Job Duties

Team management, department leadership, and supervision – 45%

  • Provide CAMP departmental leadership for optimal functioning of the unit in conjunction with the AAC Director and AAC Leadership Team
  • Lead the strategic direction and visioning for student support services
  • Provide leadership and strategic visioning of the Early ID & Selection Plan, including chairing the recruitment, selection, and notification processes.
  • Develop and manage the budget, which includes one grant-funded 53-subfund account, understand and adhere to budget guidelines of grants and use discretion in programming with the budget, which is dependent on the parameters of the US Department of Education as well as university rules and policies. Must be aware of apply state and federal financial aid policies.
  • Oversight of student databases (Student Access, Navigate, Aries, etc.)
  • Oversight for the management of all student files to ensure files are grant compliant
  • Manage and coordinate the CAMP Scholarship Program
  • Engage in committee and other campus-wide initiatives supporting first-generation, low-income and students with disabilities* Oversight of Academic Programs including tutoring, student success seminars, and supplemental academic instruction
  • Hire, train, evaluate and supervise 3 professional staff* Lead role in training, on-boarding, and professional development of new professional staff
  • Plan and facilitate weekly staff meetings and one-on-one contact meeting with professional staff
  • Develop and facilitate a collaborative work environment for the professional staff

Program development and management – 25%

  • Oversee the coordination and implementation of student programs and services critical to the success of the unit, including: recruitment and selection involving marketing to community colleges, TRiO and programs, and first year students; student success seminars, community building events, regular meetings and student experiences; fall and spring orientation programs; mid-semester grade check meetings with students, and programs to connect students with a larger university scholar program called Community for Excellence (C4E)
  • Lead the development of academic success initiatives for program participants
  • Lead the development of career, internship and graduate school programs
  • Facilitate curriculum development of first year seminar sessions* Compile and complete annual reports, including the Annual Performance Report (APR) to the U.S. Department of Education and the CSU Annual Report
  • Administer Program Satisfaction Survey and other assessments to program participants to evaluate participant’s intent to return, academic success, persistence, and retention
  • Disseminate the program model, outcomes, and other relevant topics and issues relating to serving underrepresented students to campus constituents and at conferences, workshops, etc.
  • Develop partnerships, relationships, and collaborations with faculty and campus organizations that facilitate effective service to students and promote the objectives of the unit, with particular attention to Admissions, Office of Financial Aid, Registrar, Community for Excellence, Educational Opportunity Center, Student Diversity Programs and Services, the Career Center, Adult Learner and Veteran Services, Colorado State University Foundation and Gift Processing, and other campus support services

Course instruction and direct student support – 30%

  • Serve as primary instructor for the CAMP students first-year course Develop class curriculum, syllabus, and outcomes for the CAMP first-year student course. Design, develop and coordinate curriculum concepts and ideas for CAMP first-year course.
  • Manage implementation and analysis of assessment to enhance effectiveness and efficacy of CAMP first-year course.
  • Provide on-going support and resources for first-course student by offering regular weekly office hours.
  • Stay abreast of national best practice relative to curriculum and universal design.
  • Provide academic support and coaching, advising, counseling, and advocacy for student participants. Assess the academic, personal, social, and cultural needs of students and develop appropriate plans for addressing these needs.
  • Create and retain current student files in all program databases and other University student information systems to document student participation and academic progress.
  • Administer participants class assessments to evaluate participant’s academic success, persistence, and retention. Serve as a Community for Excellence Scholar Contact. Provide appropriate referrals to University resources, including but not limited to Student Disability Center, Student Case Management, Office of Financial Aid, Health Network, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in higher education, administration/student affairs, or related discipline from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of three years of experience in the areas of staff supervision (hiring, training, evaluating); budget management; program development and evaluation; reporting and compliance with institutional, state, or federal regulations
  • Minimum of three years of full-time experience with federal programs, college access and success, academic support programs, or similar programs for minoritized college student population
  • Minimum of three years of full-time experience in course instruction and curriculum development
  • Minimum of three years’ of full-time experience in budget development, management, and compliance for all grant assurances
  • Minimum of three years’ of full-time experience advising, counseling, teaching, and/or supervising individuals from first-generation college, low-income backgrounds, and migrant backgrounds
  • Ability implement and assess a plan of operation from a grant proposal
  • Demonstrated ability to relate effectively with a variety of constituents including students, faculty, staff and college administrators
  • Demonstrated computer application skills (MS Excel, Access, or other database programs) Experience multi-tasking within a fast paced and ever-changing work environment
  • Prior experience supporting underrepresented students

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with a variety of constituents including students, faculty, staff, and community

Salary Range

$85,000 – $88,000
