Job Summary\nWorks under general direction to provide statistical consultation for faculty, staff, and students. Collaborates with Dr. Salter, research staff, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure high‑quality study design, data integrity, and accurate interpretation of statistical findings. The consultant contributes to research development through statistical analysis plans, data management strategies, and analytical execution to support publications, presentations, grants, and regulatory submissions.

Responsibilities

Conducting data cleaning, preparation, and quality checks.

Performing statistical analyses including regression, longitudinal modeling, survival analysis, hypothesis testing, and data exploration.

Applying appropriate machine‑learning methods to biomedical data with an emphasis on clinical relevance, interpretability, and reproducibility.

Conducting model validation using established performance metrics and cross‑validation techniques.

Documenting all analytical steps following reproducible research practices.

Producing tables, figures, and analytic summaries for investigators.

Assisting with the preparation of statistical portions of manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and grant applications.

Collaborating with investigators to identify problems and provide statistical consultation, including experimental design, survey design, data analysis interpretation, and report preparation.

Writing the statistical portion of manuscripts and addressing revisions based on reviewer comments.

Developing, maintaining, and modifying programs for in‑house use.

Providing non‑statistical consulting, such as explaining data concepts in non‑technical terms and helping researchers formulate research questions.

Visiting client work sites when possible to establish rapport and become familiar with research and data.

Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in biostatistics, statistics, bioinformatics, computer science (with strong statistical training, epidemiology, or related quantitative field) is highly considered.

Experience performing statistical analyses in a biomedical or healthcare environment.

Proficiency in R or SAS for statistical modeling and data analysis.

Familiarity with supervised machine‑learning methods (e.g., penalized regression, random forests, gradient boosting) and appropriate model validation practices.

Ability to clearly communicate analytical findings to investigators and collaborators.

Working knowledge of SAS, SPSS, or other major statistical packages (S+, R, etc.) and Microsoft Office (Access and Excel).

JOB SUMMARY
The Ophthalmic Photographer will function in a hybrid role within the Department of Ophthalmology, with primary responsibility for supporting clinical research imaging and patient visits in the Clinical Research Unit (CRU). Core responsibilities include performing comprehensive ophthalmic testing such as obtaining detailed medical and ocular histories, medication reconciliation, visual acuity measurements (including BCVA and ETDRS), assessment of motility, pupils, and confrontation visual fields, manual refractions, tonometry, lensometry, Humphrey Visual Field testing, and administration of ophthalmic drops per protocol. The individual will capture high-quality images for research studies using multiple imaging modalities including Heidelberg OCT, Optovue OCT-A, Humphrey Visual Field, Oculus Pentacam, specular microscopy, fundus photography, fluorescein angiography (FA), indocyanine green angiography (ICG), slit-lamp photography, and additional investigational or non–FDA-approved devices required by study protocols.

Research-related responsibilities also include supporting electronic data capture (EDC), maintaining imaging and study documentation, managing image and data quality, assisting with device certification, calibration, and quality control, and ensuring study-specific imaging compliance in accordance with sponsor and institutional requirements.

Other responsibilities include providing photography and imaging support in the general ophthalmology clinic to support clinical operations, as assigned. Additional duties may be performed as needed to meet departmental and study-related needs.

JOB DUTIES

Coordinates patient scheduling for diagnostic photography and angiography of eye. Maintains patient records.
Performs ophthalmic imaging and diagnostic studies as designated by the ordering physician, uploading images to the Electronic Medical Record for review. Reviews with ordering physician quality of work performed.
Prepares photographic material for weekly Retina Conferences and ophthalmic photographic exhibits at meetings of ophthalmologist and/or ophthalmic photographers.
Instructs resident physicians in fundus photography procedures.
Maintains and repairs ophthalmic photography equipment at laboratory.
Duties performed may include one or more of the following core functions: (a) Directly interacting with or caring for patients; (b) Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants; (c) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting patient records (including patient financial records); or (d) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting human-subjects research records.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Duties

Performs insurance verification/eligibility and completes precertification on all applicable patient accounts.

Identifies and verifies essential information pertaining to guarantor/subscriber.

Monitors patient work queues/DAR to review accounts that require estimates, verification and/or authorization.

Reviews clinical documentation for CPT/diagnosis code information to support authorizations according to carrier guidelines.

Verifies patient insurance benefits and eligibility for all applicable scheduled services specific to the type of appointment, procedure and/or exam, and site of service via carrier websites or calling insurance companies.

Address and resolve plan alerts/errors and insurance filing order discrepancies.

Ensures exams are scheduled with proper patient class (make corrections when needed).

Evaluates physician referral and authorization requirements to ensure requirements are met prior to date of service. Tracks accounts to resolution.

Create cost estimates for scheduled appointments and send to patients.

Answer questions on estimates as needed.

Ensures that patients are aware of financial obligations, cost of care, access to financial education material.

Qualifications

Education

Job Duties

Assists in the University‑wide risk assessment process to identify potential areas of Health System compliance vulnerabilities and critical and emerging risks.

In conjunction with UTSW Office of Compliance, collaborates with Health System executives, department heads, and administrative and health system operations leaders and teams to assure the development, implementation, and ongoing improvement and assessment of the effectiveness of the seven elements of an effective compliance program for the Health System. Creates and implements processes to identify, manage and mitigate the Health System's compliance risks, reduce the potential adverse effects of non‑compliance, and develop/assure that effective corrective actions are implemented as appropriate.

Develops, initiates, maintains, and revises compliance‑related standards, policies and procedures for the operations of the Health System and its related activities to prevent, detect, identify and mitigate illegal, unethical or improper conduct.

Assures the effectiveness of the compliance program as applicable to health system matters as measured and evaluated per the USTW Office of Compliance and the UT System wide Compliance Program.

Directs identified compliance issues to the appropriate existing channels for evaluation and resolution; consults with health system to improve the compliance of processes; coordinates and prepares reports and assessments as appropriate.

Develops, prepares, and presents reports to the Office of Institutional Compliance, the health system leadership, the health system compliance committee, and other compliance committees as appropriate, pertaining to the Health System's compliance activities.

Directs and supervises assigned personnel in the Health System compliance division including performance evaluations, scheduling, orientation and training.

Assist the UTSW Institutional Compliance Office as required.

Performs other duties as assigned.
