Job Description/Summary: Are you a technical problem-solver who thrives when the "On Air" light is glowing? Do you love the rush of live television and have the skills to keep a modern newsroom running at peak performance? WTOC, Savannah's #1 news station, is looking for a Part-Time Broadcast Engineer to join our team on an as-needed basis. Whether it's maintaining cutting-edge studio gear or ensuring our digital streams are flawless, you'll be the backbone of the technology that keeps our community informed.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
What You'll Do:
Maintain mission-critical systems: Keep our studio, control room, and newsroom equipment in top condition to ensure zero downtime during live broadcasts.
Own the fix: Troubleshoot hardware and software issues on the fly-because in live news, every second counts.
Support the "New" in News: Assist with the maintenance of digital streaming workflows and multi-platform content delivery systems.
Collaborate across teams: Work closely with directors, producers, and photographers to ensure the technical side of their storytelling is seamless.
Stay ahead of the curve: Help implement equipment upgrades and system integrations as we continue to evolve our digital-first capabilities.
Be the technical hero: Provide "on-call" support for breaking news or special events when the station needs your expertise most.
Qualifications/Requirements: What You Bring:
Technical Versatility: A solid understanding of broadcast electronics, signal flow, and IT networking (you know your way around a server rack and a soldering iron).
Live News Mindset: You stay calm under pressure and can think on your feet when a technical glitch happens mid-newscast.
Digital Fluency: Experience with (or a strong desire to learn) modern IP-based broadcast systems and streaming technologies.
Reliability: You're the person people count on; when you're on the schedule, we know the tech is in good hands.
Problem-Solving DNA: You don't just fix symptoms; you find the root cause and make sure it doesn't happen again.
Flexibility: You're comfortable working an "as-needed" schedule, which might include mornings, nights, or weekends depending on station needs.
Communication Skills: You can explain technical issues to non-technical people without the "tech-speak" getting in the way.
